Fulvio Sigurtà is an Italian trumpeter and flugelhornist born on 20 September 1975 in Desenzano del Garda, on Lake Garda, and raised in nearby Lonato del Garda. He started on the trumpet at about seven in the town's wind band and entered the Conservatorio Luca Marenzio in Brescia at 15, graduating in classical trumpet in 1998 under Sergio Malacarne. He did his military service as a trumpeter in Rome, and began studying jazz in 1998; the Italian daily il Giornale reports that he did so with Paolo Fresu, a teacher-student link that his own biography does not mention.

In 2003 he moved to Boston on a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music, where he met the guitarist Federico Casagrande, and in 2004 he took a jazz diploma at the Brescia conservatory. He then went to London, earning a master's degree with distinction at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2005 and staying in the UK for fourteen years, until 2018. An early recording, made at the Guildhall in July 2005, was Pure and Simple (C.A.M. Jazz, 2007), a big-band album of pianist John Taylor's music with Taylor as guest. In March 2006 he recorded Frescobaldi Per Noi (2007) with accordionist Gianni Coscia, trombonist Dino Piana and bassist Enzo Pietropaoli, jazz readings of the Renaissance composer Girolamo Frescobaldi.

Through the late 2000s and early 2010s he worked on two scenes at once. In London he recorded with the soul-jazz band Nostalgia 77 (four albums between 2009 and 2014, including a session with Keith and Julie Tippett), the Rhythmagic Orchestra, Natural Self, Prince Fatty and Hollie Cook, and he is credited on a 2014 single by Jamie Cullum with Gregory Porter. In Italy he recorded with Giovanni Guidi's Unknown Rebel Band (2009), Paolo Damiani's Pane e Tempesta (2010) alongside fellow trumpeter Francesco Lento, Mauro Ottolini's Sousaphonix with reedman Daniele D'Agaro, and Cristina Zavalloni's La donna di cristallo (2012). In 2016 he was one of the horns on the Keith Tippett Octet's The Nine Dances of Patrick O'Gonogon.

His own records began with Conversations (Impossible Ark, 2009), a duo with Casagrande, and Coincidences (Palomar, 2011), a duo with bassist Giovanni Maier recorded in Lonato in September 2009. In 2011 he made his first album for C.A.M. Jazz, House of Cards, recorded in London with saxophonist James Allsopp, Casagrande on electric guitar, bassist Riaan Vosloo and drummer Timothy Giles. For 2011 he was named best new talent in the Top Jazz poll of the Italian magazine Musica Jazz, which his own biography dates to the 2012 announcement. Through the Journey (2012), a duo with pianist Claudio Filippini recorded at Bauer Studios in Ludwigsburg, followed, and then SPL (2013), a trio record with electric bassist Andrea Lombardini and drummer Alessandro Paternesi, with Hammond organist Ross Stanley and percussionist Michele Rabbia as guests. The Oldest Living Thing (2015), with Steve Swallow on electric bass and Casagrande on acoustic guitar, was recorded at Artesuono in Cavalicco in July 2014 and reviewed as a chamber-jazz record by Adrian Pallant of London Jazz News and Ian Mann of The Jazz Mann.

Since 2011 he has also been the trumpeter in Enzo Pietropaoli's Yatra Quartet, with pianist Julian Oliver Mazzariello and Paternesi; the group has recorded Yatra (2011), Yatra Vol. 2 (2013), Yatra Vol. 3 (2015) and Yatra Songs (2022, with the singer Cristina Renzetti). With Pietropaoli and guitarist Battista Lena he made the trio SACD La Notte (Fonè, 2012), and with clarinetist Gabriele Mirabassi, Pietropaoli and drummer Marcello Di Leonardo he recorded We Concentrate On You, a Cole Porter program taped at the fonè festival in Pontedera in September 2022 and released in 2024.

Since returning to Italy he has become a fixture of Italian jazz education. He began teaching trumpet at the Siena Jazz summer seminars in 2014, when his friend the trumpeter Marco Tamburini asked him to take his place, and took over all of Tamburini's teaching after Tamburini's accident in 2015; he appeared in the 2022 seminar concerts, including the Chigiana Meets Siena Jazz program. He also teaches in the jazz department of the Rovigo conservatory and, in September 2026, directed the fifth Lonato Festival Jazz in the courtyard of Palazzo Zambelli, where he had recorded Coincidences seventeen years earlier. His current main group is the Extended Singularity quartet with pianist Stefano Onorati, bassist Gabriele Evangelista and Paternesi. The quartet was born in early 2020 as an extension of Onorati and Sigurtà's duo Singularity, and its album Extended Singularity appeared on Caligola in 2024. He is also a member of Koro Almost Brass, whose albums Plays Monk (2025) and Kurt (2026) are on Caligola.

Sigurtà plays trumpet and flugelhorn with a clear, mellow tone; reviewing The Oldest Living Thing, Adrian Pallant of London Jazz News also heard an Italian precision in his phrasing. Reviewers place his best-known records in two different worlds. The Oldest Living Thing is quiet, melodic chamber jazz that Ian Mann of The Jazz Mann found beautiful throughout, while press coverage of SPL described a blend of progressive rock, electronics, reggae, drum and bass and noise, with the trumpet processed through a laptop until, on "Aliasing Memories," it is meant to sound like an electric guitar. House of Cards and Through the Journey sit between those poles: original compositions for small groups with live electronics on the former and a piano duo of mostly original pieces, with a version of Elvis Costello's "Almost Blue," on the latter.

In an interview with il Giornale he named Freddie Hubbard, Chet Baker and Miles Davis as his trumpet models and the Scandinavian jazz scene as an influence. For Extended Singularity the quartet takes as its model the last quartet of Wayne Shorter, and the group's own description stresses risk and trust over individual display. In a Bresciaoggi interview he described turning energy into sound as what makes playing worthwhile.

His catalogue is jazz-led, with soul-jazz, broken-beat, dub and pop sessions from his London years at the edges rather than at the centre, and the leader records, the Yatra quartet, the Fonè sessions and the Siena Jazz teaching post all sit inside the Italian jazz world.
