Alessandro Turchet is a double bassist based in Italy's Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, active as a performer and teacher since 2000. He began on electric bass under Piero Cescut, moved to double bass under Romano Todesco, and earned his double bass diploma at the Conservatorio "J. Tomadini" in Udine under Franco Feruglio, followed by further classical study with Mauro Muraro and Fabio Serafini and jazz-language study with Marc Abrams. (Some pre-build summary material describes him as Trieste Conservatory-trained; his own Discogs artist profile and every independent source checked for this build instead name the Conservatorio "J. Tomadini" in Udine, not Trieste, as the institution that awarded his double bass diploma - see alessandro-turchet_notes.md.) He now teaches electric bass and double bass at the Scuola di Musica Città di Codroipo, in Codroipo, in the province of Udine.

His discography, verified against the Discogs API under a single unambiguous artist identity (ID 2471643, name variations "A.Turchet" and "Turchet"), runs to 54 credited releases: 8 as a credited co-leader or ensemble member billed by name, 44 further sideman appearances, and 2 track-level appearances. Widely repeated press biography text describes him as featured on "more than 100 recordings" or "over 90 recordings"; that figure could not be reconciled against the Discogs-catalogued count for this build and is presented as a press claim rather than an independently confirmed total (see notes).

He has never released an album billed to himself alone. Instead, his eight co-leader or ensemble credits are all shared billings, most of them with the same handful of recurring partners. His longest-running is with pianist Claudio Cojaniz, a partnership press coverage describes as running "more than a decade" across trio and quartet settings - among them Cojaniz's own Fascinating Journey (2012, Jazzit Records) and Orfani (2022, Caligola), the Coj & Second Time projects Sound Of Africa (2017) and Molineddu (2018, both Caligola), and, in May 2024, the piano-bass duo album Madeleine (Caligola Records) - Cojaniz's eighteenth album as a leader for the label, closing out its "Jazz Piano Duets" series with seven originals and a version of Thelonious Monk's "'Round Midnight."

He has been the double bassist in Mocambo Swing since the group's formation in 2004 by musicians based across Venice, Trieste, Pordenone and Udine. The quintet - Matteo Sgobino (voice, guitar), Alan Malusà Magno (guitar), Francesco Socal (clarinet), Flavio Davanzo (trumpet) and Turchet - plays a self-described blend of Dixieland and modern jazz with gypsy popular song; their 2010 album La Bela Vie carries Discogs' own "Gypsy Jazz" style tag.

Turchet's other regular working groups include a duo with reedist Daniele D'Agaro, whose 2022 album Mingus Fingers (Artesuono) is a duo tribute to Charles Mingus; the Angelo Comisso Trio, with pianist Angelo Comisso and drummer Luca Colussi, whose Numen (2021, Artesuono) has been described in Friuli jazz press as "a splendid reality of international level"; the Mandala Trio, with pianist Riccardo Morpurgo and again Luca Colussi, on Kaleidoscopic (2019, Artesuono); an unbilled trio with pianist Dario Carnovale and Colussi (Untitled, 2018, Albore Jazz); and a duo with pianist Daniele Labelli, Bordo Fiume (2021, Da Vinci Jazz).

His most recent regular group is Naviganti e Sognatori, a trio with guitarist Luca Falomi and drummer Max Trabucco, formed around a self-titled 2021 debut on Abeat Records. Their second album, Mare Aperto (2024, Abeat Records), builds on Italian maritime song traditions - including a Sicilian folk song, "E vui durmiti ancora," and a Ligurian one - and adds two guests confirmed at the Discogs release-credit level: vocalist Maria Pia De Vito and bandoneonist Daniele Di Bonaventura, both already profiled elsewhere in this vault.

Further Discogs-verified sideman credits run from 2008's Travellers with the U.T. Gandhi Fearless Five and Maurizio Pagnutti's sextet album Secret Stories (2010, Artesuono, alongside Daniele D'Agaro, Fulvio Sigurtà, Mauro "8" Ottolini and Bruno Cesselli) through several Massimo De Mattia records and Glauco Venier's quartet album Waits (2013), up to his newest confirmed credit, Francesco Bearzatti's The Peace Concert (2026, Parco della Musica Records). He placed second in the double bass category of the international jazz competition in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, in 2013, and has performed regularly at the Udin&Jazz festival, including a 2023 date with drummer Stewart Copeland and the FVG Orchestra and a 2024 appearance in a benefit jam session billed as "Udin&Jazz for Gaza."

His own promotional biography, repeated across secondary sources, also names John Taylor, Peter Erskine, Kyle Gregory and Paolo Fresu as collaborators, and credits him as bassist on five film soundtracks including Easy - Un viaggio Facile (2017) and Sangre en la boca (2016). None of the four named international collaborators, nor the film-soundtrack credits, could be corroborated against the Discogs release-credit data pulled for this build or any other independently dated source, and are presented here as press self-reporting rather than confirmed credits - see alessandro-turchet_notes.md. Di Bonaventura, separately named in the same biography text, IS independently confirmed through the 2024 Mare Aperto session.

Turchet's core catalogue is duo- and trio-scale mainstream jazz built around long-standing partnerships rather than a fixed leader project - the Cojaniz piano-bass duo being the clearest case, an intimate, conversational format one reviewer described as "call and response," with the bass often anticipating the piano's phrases rather than simply accompanying it. Two of his other regular contexts pull in different directions from that mainstream core: Mocambo Swing's gypsy-and-Dixieland-inflected border jazz, and Naviganti e Sognatori's more folk- and song-based Mediterranean repertoire, credited by Discogs under both "Jazz" and "Folk, World, & Country." Mingus Fingers, his duo tribute to Charles Mingus with Daniele D'Agaro, points to a harder, blues-rooted small-group lineage distinct from either of those.
