Beppe Scardino - Discogs' own name variations record his full name as "Giuseppe 'Beppe' Scardino" - was born August 31, 1980, in Livorno, Tuscany. He studied jazz at the Conservatorio "G.B. Martini" in Bologna, graduating with a thesis on late-period John Coltrane, and has spent close to two decades as what critic Giovanni Natoli, writing for the Orange Room album, called a musician who embodies "the double face" of "sardonic Livornese, salacious and wise" on one side and "tender, reflective, passionate" on the other.

He formed his own pianoless sextet, Orange Room, releasing its self-titled debut in 2007 (recorded December 2006 at Artesuono Recording Studio, Cavalicco) with Scardino on baritone saxophone as sole composer and arranger, alongside Piero Bittolo Bon (alto saxophone), Francesco Bigoni (tenor saxophone), Pasquale Mirra (vibraphone), Antonio Borghini (double bass) and Federico Scettri (drums) - a lineup the press likened to "Mingus al caciucco" (a Livornese-fish-stew take on Mingus) and the early-1960s Blue Note sound of Jackie McLean and Bobby Hutcherson. The same sextet, with Bittolo Bon expanding to alto clarinet and flute, released a second album, Elegy for the Punk Movement, in 2010, again on the Bari-based musicians' collective and label El Gallo Rojo, of which Scardino is a member.

El Gallo Rojo also connects him to trombonist Gianluca Petrella: Scardino plays baritone saxophone on both studio albums by Petrella's Cosmic Band, Coming Tomorrow - Part One (2009) and Part Two (2012, both Spacebone Records), and reappears - as one of only two credited musicians on the record - on Petrella's own Il Bidone (2013, Spacebone Records), a Nino Rota tribute pairing Petrella's trombone and electronics against Scardino's baritone saxophone and bass clarinet. Alfonso Santimone (Fender Rhodes, Korg MS-10, laptop electronics), already profiled on this project, is his bandmate across both Cosmic Band albums, and the two also share a later, separate credit together on guitarist Domenico Caliri's Camera Lirica (2014, Caligola).

Scardino has also been a regular in reedist-arranger Dimitri Grechi Espinoza's Dinamitri Jazz Folklore, recording alongside beat poet Amiri Baraka (Akendengue Suite, 2008; Live In Sant'Anna Arresi 2013, released 2016) and vocalist Sadiq Bey (Congo Evidence, 2006). He plays baritone saxophone in the American drummer-composer Bobby Previte's trio Plutino, alongside guitarist Francesco Diodati, documented on the trio's self-titled 2012 album (Spacebone Records), and appears alongside American alto saxophonist Tim Berne in Mr. Rencore's group on Intollerant (2011, AUAND). A 2014 quintet co-billing, Color Network (Aut Records), pairs him with Francesco Massaro, Danilo Gallo, Adolfo La Volpe and Giacomo Mongelli in a set built entirely around Ornette Coleman's 1959 album The Shape of Jazz to Come.

His most recent leader project, BS10, expands his working unit to a ten-piece: three reeds/bass clarinets, two trumpets and tuba over an electric-leaning rhythm section of Fender Rhodes/synth, guitar, double bass, acoustic drums, drum machine and electronics. Its document, BS10 Live in Pisa (recorded 2018, released 2019, AUAND), reviewed by All About Jazz's Neri Pollastri, gathers original compositions - "Agosto14," "One for KD," "1001," "Verticamera," "Tre," "Patchouli" - alongside a deliberately unrecognizable, cubistic rework of Coltrane's "Giant Steps," closing a circle back to the conservatory thesis that first set his direction.

From the mid-2010s his work has run in parallel down a second track as an in-demand Italian pop session player and arranger: a member of the C'Mon Tigre collective since 2015, touring with the band Calibro 35 on its 2018 "Decade" anniversary shows, and appearing on record with Diodato, Marco Mengoni, Elisa, Daniele Silvestri, Cesare Cremonini, Max Gazzè, Jack Savoretti and Gianni Morandi. He has continued to appear on the Italian jazz-festival circuit through the same period - a Jazz Club Ferrara date and Pisa Jazz's 2024 "Notes for a Speech" concert both post-date his move into pop session work - and in 2019 he began a separate electronic solo project under the alias TYTO, releasing the album Mirai in 2022.

His own artist biography also names Anthony Braxton, Alvin Curran and cellist Tristan Honsinger among his past collaborators; none of the three turns up among the 83 Discogs-documented artist-relationship credits under his own artist entity checked for this build, so they are recorded here as bio-claimed rather than independently confirmed.

Scardino's catalog splits along a line shared with several other El Gallo Rojo-affiliated Italian improvisers: acoustic free jazz built on reed-and-rhythm interplay (Orange Room's two albums, tagged "Free Jazz" and "Free Improvisation" respectively on Discogs, in a pianoless sextet format the press compared to Charles Mingus and the Blue Note-era work of Jackie McLean and Bobby Hutcherson) and a more electronic, fusion-facing direction shared with Gianluca Petrella's Cosmic Band, whose two studio albums Discogs tags "Future Jazz" and "Fusion" alongside plain "Jazz." Il Bidone (2013), his stripped-to-a-duo record with Petrella built entirely around Nino Rota's film scores, carries Discogs' "Avant-garde Jazz" style tag, and his own BS10 tentet - expanding the reed-and-rhythm-section format to ten pieces with an electric-and-electronic rhythm section - was described by All About Jazz's Neri Pollastri as a career-recapping reworking of that same double identity. Since the mid-2010s that catalog has run alongside a separate, well-documented career as an Italian pop session musician and arranger, a parallel practice this profile records in full but does not fold into his jazz subgenre tags above.
