Elisabetta Serio is a Naples-born jazz pianist and composer who trained at conservatory from childhood, took a jazz degree, and studied under maestro Valerio Silvestro before attending workshops with the American bebop pianist Barry Harris in Rome. Multiple profiles describe her studying and working alongside pianist Rita Marcotulli during the same formative period. She completed a university thesis on women in jazz, a subject that runs through much of her later career.

Her leader debut, April (2013, GN Records), a limited 180-gram vinyl edition, was dedicated to her father; press sources place a Premio Carosone and a Premio Piedigrotta (both 2010, as a composer) and the Premio Lucca Donna in Jazz (2011) around the same project, though the exact year each prize was awarded relative to the album's 2013 release is not consistently reported (see elisabetta-serio_notes.md). Discogs tags the album Jazz/Contemporary Jazz, with Serio on piano alongside bassist Giacomo Pedicini and drummer Leonardo De Lorenzo.

Rino Zurzolo, a bassist with whom she had worked for roughly a decade, introduced her to Pino Daniele, and Serio toured internationally in his band from around 2012 until his death in January 2015 - "three intense years," in her own words, that included stops at Umbria Jazz, the Toronto Jazz Festival, San Francisco and New York. She is Discogs-credited on piano, electric piano and additional keyboards on the posthumously released Nero a Metà Live (2015). Alongside Daniele she also shared stages with Neapolitan artists James Senese, Tullio De Piscopo and Enzo Gragnaniello, and with the English singer Z Star, Gianluca Grignani, Noa and the late Andrea Parodi.

Her second leader album, Sedici (2017, Via Veneto Jazz), gathers nine original compositions written across the years before and after the Daniele period, with her regular trio of bassist Marco de Tilla and drummer Leonardo de Lorenzo, plus guests Fulvio Sigurtà (trumpet), Jerry Popolo (tenor sax) and the British singer Sarah Jane Morris. Rita Marcotulli wrote the album's liner notes, a Discogs-documented credit, praising Serio's "sensibilità, personalità, determinazione, poesia ed eleganza." Avvenire's jazz critic put her among "one of the most valid talents of recent Italian jazz" on the record's release.

In 2016 she co-founded SesèMamà, an all-female Neapolitan quartet with Brunella Selo, Annalisa Madonna and Fabiana Martone, working across Brazilian chorinho, jazz and Neapolitan song; the group released a self-titled debut in 2018. In 2020 she paired with fellow pianist Lorenzo Hengeller for Piano Napoli (Sony Music), a two-piano tribute to contemporary Neapolitan song produced by Gigi D'Alessio, with guest vocals from Raiz, Peppe Servillo, Fabio Concato, Stefano Bollani, Enzo Gragnaniello, Franco Ricciardi and Pietra Montecorvino; neither Piano Napoli nor the SesèMamà album is indexed on Discogs, so both are reported here on press and label sourcing rather than a Discogs release credit (see elisabetta-serio_notes.md).

She has continued working as a session and touring pianist through the 2020s, including piano and keyboards on Tutto Su Eva (2022, Parco Della Musica Records), a live-recorded date credited to Auditorium Band featuring Maria Pia De Vito and Raiz, confirmed at the Discogs release-credit level, and additional session and compilation appearances with artists including Biagio Antonacci, La Claud, Fiorenza Calogero and Opera Nera.

Serio's playing merges an elegiac, lyrical touch with a light, uneven rhythmic pulse, favoring a suspended, dreamlike atmosphere over overt virtuosity - a description that recurs across the Italian jazz press covering Sedici. She names the American pianist Brad Mehldau as a defining contemporary influence, alongside a set of songwriting touchstones outside jazz altogether: Neapolitan singer Gabriella Ferri, Fabrizio De André, The Beatles and U2. That combination shows up directly in her own writing, which sits inside a mainstream, standards-literate piano-trio tradition while drawing its emotional register from songcraft rather than from a specific jazz school. Her parallel life as a Neapolitan-scene session and touring pianist - with Pino Daniele's band, with SesèMamà, and on the Piano Napoli project with Lorenzo Hengeller - runs alongside rather than against her jazz work, feeding the same interest in popular Neapolitan song that surfaces throughout her original material.
