Fulvio Sisti was born in Milan on June 14, 1955, and died in Pisa on August 17, 1998, at the age of 43, of cardiac arrest. Italian Wikipedia describes him as a jazz saxophonist, singer, painter and poet; the recording record that survives is that of an alto saxophonist who also sang standards, and it is short, six Discogs-listed records, one of them issued six years after his death. He is best remembered on the Tuscan coast, where through the 1980s he was one of the protagonists of Versilia's nightlife, playing fashionable clubs such as La Bussola and La Capannina.

By the account in his Italian Wikipedia biography, he was a student of Giorgio Gaslini and trained in the United States alongside Chet Baker, with whom he played, the Duke Ellington altoist Johnny Hodges, and Sonny Stitt, who is named as his saxophone teacher. Returning to Italy in the second half of the 1970s, he made his recording debut alongside the tenor saxophonist Pietro Tonolo. The earliest session that Discogs documents fits that account: Bridge Into The New Generation, cut on June 8, 1981 at Fontana Studio 7 in Milan by the Guido Manusardi Quintet and released by Splasc(h) Records in 1983, has Sisti on alto and Tonolo on tenor over a rhythm section of pianist Guido Manusardi, bassist Marco Vaggi and drummer Alfredo Golino. The six-track program includes "Old Folks," "Scrapple From The Apple" and Ellington's "Take The Coltrane," alongside "Oltremera," "Sorrow" and "Vera."

The mid-1980s show him in two very different sideman settings. On A Midwinter Night's Dream (1983, Five Record), the large-ensemble album led and conducted by Dino Betti van der Noot, he is one of the baritone saxophonists, credited on tracks A1 and B1 through B3, in a band that also carries Gianluigi Trovesi on alto and clarinet, Emilio Soana among the trumpets and flugelhorns, and Bruno De Filippi on guitar. A year later, on pianist Giorgio Buratti's Listen To Me (1984, Ducale Jazz), he is credited on alto, tenor and baritone saxophones in a horn pairing with Bruno Marini, with Filippo Monico on drums and Susanna Buratti on voice and poetry. Discogs tags that record Free Jazz, yet its program includes "Mood Indigo," "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," "Pithecanthropus Erectus" and "I Can't Get Started," and the liner notes are by Franco Fayenz.

The Florentine pianist Luca Flores brought him in for Love For Sale, recorded in Florence in October 1991 and released by Splasc(h) in 1993 (reissued in remastered form in 2003). Sisti plays alto saxophone on tracks 1 and 9, the title track and "Sophia," in company with the American tenor saxophonist David Murray, bassist Riccardo Del Fra on the opening track, drummer Giulio Capiozzo, flutist Nicola Stilo and trumpeter Hilaria Kramer. The same record also carries Barbara Casini (backing vocals) and Fabio Morgera (trumpet), but on other tracks than Sisti's. Italian Wikipedia adds that he played for some years in the group of the pianist Gaetano Liguori and then formed his own Fulvio Sisti Quartet with Franco Nesti on bass, Francesco Maccianti on piano and Alessandro Fabbri on drums; Maccianti's own quartet album Oasi (1998, Splasc(h)), with Tonolo on soprano and tenor saxophones, credits Sisti as a vocalist on two tracks, "Nearness Of You" and "Eu E A Brisa."

His one record under his own name, Plays And Sings (Splasc(h) Records, CD H 536.2), is a duo with the guitarist Alessandro Piccini. Its 13 tracks were laid down in two sessions in Florence, four of them (tracks 1, 2, 4 and 12: "I Remember You," "Diane," "Night And Day" and "My Funny Valentine") in 1994 at Kindergarten Studio and the rest in the winter of 1995 and 1996 at the Maramao Club, and the album was not released until 2004. Sisti is credited on alto saxophone and vocals, and the program runs from "Autumn Leaves" and "You Go To My Head" through the bossa nova of "One Note Samba," "Wave" and "Estate" to Sonny Rollins's "Tenor Madness."

Beyond the records, Italian Wikipedia lists among his collaborators Enrico Rava, Romano Mussolini, Massimo Urbani, Larry Nocella, Andrea Colli and Luca Flores, and names the singer Loretta Grazzini as his partner in life. He also taught alto saxophone. An annual Memorial Fulvio Sisti is held in Versilia in his name, and on March 15, 2025 the Associazione Culturale CantiereNove staged a free tribute concert, "Fulvio Sisti & Chet Baker: il suono del jazz in una Versilia in bianco e nero," at the Auditorium of the Parrocchia di Sant'Antonio in Marina di Pietrasanta, with trumpeter Andrea Tofanelli, altoist Roberto Martinelli, pianist Mauro Grossi, bassist Guido Zorn and drummer Michele Vannucci.

Sisti's records place him in the bebop-rooted mainstream: an alto player who studied with Sonny Stitt, working a repertoire of American standards and Brazilian songbook staples. Italian Wikipedia sums up his approach as reviving the great jazz classics with a melodic sound, and names Chet Baker first among the players he did it with. The singing is a second voice rather than a separate career: Plays And Sings puts saxophone and vocals in the same duo program, and on Oasi his two vocal appearances are the Hoagy Carmichael ballad "Nearness Of You" and "Eu E A Brisa," a Brazilian song. As a sideman he moved between a modern-jazz quintet (Manusardi), a large Milan jazz ensemble with more than 40 credited musicians (Betti van der Noot), a Free Jazz-tagged reed-and-voice record (Buratti) and a session with David Murray (Flores), which is a wide range for so short a discography.
