Glauco Benedetti is an Italian tuba, sousaphone and euphonium player who has built a career as a recurring low-brass voice in contemporary Italian jazz without leading a record of his own. His Discogs page lists 40 releases, all as a sideman or ensemble member, and 30 of them carry a Discogs "Jazz" tag; recent Italian concert notices describe him as a tuba player active in both the lyric-symphonic and jazz worlds, with collaborations ranging from Mauro Ottolini and Fabrizio Bosso to Dan Kinzelman. No birth date, birthplace or training history for him is publicly documented, and he has no Wikipedia biography of his own.

His steadiest home in recording is the AUAND label's circle of Italian improvisers. He plays tuba and euphonium in Ghost Horse, the sextet expansion of the trio Hobby Horse, alongside tenor saxophonist and bass clarinetist Dan Kinzelman and trombonist Filippo Vignato, with baritone guitarist Gabrio Baldacci, bassist Joe Rehmer and drummer Stefano Tamborrino. Their debut Trojan, recorded May 25-26, 2018 at Studio Esagono in Rubiera and released on AUAND in 2019, was followed by Live At Area Sismica 26.1.20 (2021) and the Hora Records album Il Bene Comune (2022), on which Discogs credits him on tuba, euphonium, piccolo trumpet and flugelhorn. He is also the tuba in guitarist Francesco Diodati's Yellow Squeeds, on Flow, Home. (2015) and Never The Same (2019), with pianist Enrico Zanisi, trumpeter Francesco Lento and drummer Enrico Morello; Musica Jazz indexes a review of Never The Same under his name. On the same label he is credited on Text(us) (2020) by The Auanders and on baritone saxophonist Beppe Scardino's ten-piece BS10 record BS10 Live in Pisa (2018).

Large-ensemble work is the second pillar. Discogs credits him on tuba on three albums by Riccardo Brazzale's Lydian Sound Orchestra for Parco Della Musica Records: We Resist! (2018), Mare 1519 (2019) and No More Wrong Mistakes (This Is Our Music) (2022), the last featuring saxophonist David Murray and trombonist Federico Pierantoni. Italian Wikipedia's entry for the orchestra names him in its stable lineup, and Musica Jazz indexes its review of We Resist! under his name. Trombonist Domenico Caliri's Camera Lirica (2014, Caligola), Roberto Spadoni's New Project Jazz Orchestra, the Tower Jazz Composers Orchestra directed by pianist Alfonso Santimone (2019), Selfie Jungle's Duke Ellington tribute Stick To Duke (2022) and the Koro Almost Brass albums Plays Monk (2025) and Kurt (2026), a five-piece with trumpeter Fulvio Sigurtà, fill out the same side of the catalog.

In 2024 he appeared on Bill Frisell's Blue Note double album Orchestras, whose second disc documents Frisell's trio with the eleven-piece Umbria Jazz Orchestra, directed by Manuele Morbidini and recorded at Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto between December 30, 2021 and January 1, 2022. Benedetti is the tuba on that disc, alongside Pierantoni and Lento. Earlier, on Mauro Ottolini's Storyville Story (2020), a New Orleans-repertoire project with Fabrizio Bosso, he played sousaphone in a sextet that toured Italian festivals including Umbria Jazz in Orvieto, Vicenza Jazz and Verona Jazz in 2018-2019, according to Italian Wikipedia's page for the project. Ottolini also used him on the two-disc Luigi Tenco tribute Tenco - Come Ti Vedono Gli Altri (2017).

Outside jazz he has a working pop and rock career. Discogs credits him on tuba on Jovanotti's Safari (2008), and Italian Wikipedia's page for Jovanotti's 2013 stadium tour lists him as the tuba player in the touring band alongside Pierantoni and trumpeter Marco Tamburini. That is a Wikipedia-only claim; the Discogs credit is the independently verified one. His credit list also includes brass parts on records by Jennifer Gentle, Mother Island and Giangrande.

Recent notices show him still active at the small-group end of the scale: an evening of sound improvisations on tuba, saxophone and other wind instruments in Livorno on June 20, 2025; the 2023 Südtirol Jazzfestival, where All About Jazz reported him with Kinzelman and Vignato in the fortress-walking "Jazz at the Fortress" set; and a 2026 Montello è Jazz program for Baritube, a trio with saxophonist Helga Plankensteiner and drummer Daniele Patton playing music written for that lineup.

Benedetti's role is that of a bass-register anchor who moves easily between ensemble formats: the free-improvisation and avant-garde jazz of Ghost Horse, Fresh Frozen and Piero Bittolo Bon's Bread & Fox (Discogs tags those records Free Jazz, Free Improvisation and Avant-garde Jazz), the big-band writing of the Lydian Sound Orchestra and the Umbria Jazz Orchestra, New Orleans repertoire on sousaphone in Storyville Story, the Thelonious Monk and Kurt Weill programs of Koro Almost Brass, and pop-band tuba on stadium-scale Italian records. Because he has no leader album or published interview on file, no self-declared influences are documented here; the record of who he plays with is the clearest picture of the scene he belongs to.
