Jacopo Fagioli is a Tuscan trumpeter and composer, born in 1997 in Prato and from Poggio a Caiano, a town in the same province. He was named "Nuovo Talento" (best new talent) in the Top Jazz 2025 critics' poll run by Musica Jazz, with the results announced in January 2026, the same poll in which Enrico Rava was named Musician of the Year. The prize followed Dialogue, his second album as a leader, released on Aut Records in 2025.

By his own account in a Musica Jazz interview, he was drawn to the trumpet as a child by seeing the trumpeter Roy Paci on television, and found jazz around the age of ten through Chet Baker's album She Was Too Good to Me. He studied at the Liceo Musicale in Florence, took classical trumpet with Nicola Santochirico and Piergiuseppe Doldi (first trumpet of the Teatro La Fenice orchestra in Venice), and graduated with honors from the trumpet Biennio at the Conservatorio di Rovigo. In 2020 he graduated with honors from the jazz trumpet Triennio at Siena Jazz. According to his biographical listings he also attended a permanent laboratory of musical research led by Stefano Battaglia at Siena in 2018 and 2019, and in the Musica Jazz interview he names Fulvio Sigurtà and Franco D'Andrea among his important teachers at Siena. These teaching relationships come from his own account and biographical listings rather than from recording credits.

His first recognition came as half of a duo with pianist Nico Tangherlini, whom he met at Siena Jazz. The pair started playing together in March 2019 and won the Premio Marco Tamburini in Rovigo that year. Their album Bilico (AMP Music & Records, 2022) was recorded in Cagliari in May 2021, mixed and mastered in Utrecht, and presented at the Italian Cultural Institute in Oslo and at Pisa Jazz 2023, where the duo opened for Maria Pia De Vito's quintet. In January 2023 Fagioli placed third in the "Nuovo Talento" category of Top Jazz 2022, and Musica Jazz listed Bilico among the best records of 2022.

Dialogue replaced the duo's chamber setting with a quartet: Fagioli on trumpet and piccolo trumpet, Davide Strangio on electric guitar, Amedeo Verniani on double bass and Mattia Galeotti on drums. It was recorded on November 11 and 12, 2023 at Cicaleto Recording Studio in Arezzo, mixed and mastered in April 2024 at Studio della Giraffa in Cagliari, and released on May 6, 2025 as a digital album and limited-edition CD, with cover art by Claire Gross. The seven compositions run from about four to twelve minutes, with titles such as "Avoid Thoughts of Power and Domination," "Greenwashing" and "Desertification" pointing to the album's themes of power, climate crisis, spirituality, identity and cultural heritage. Fagioli describes the project as dialogue both between the musicians and as a reflection on contemporary society. Sandro Cerini reviewed the album in Musica Jazz as strongly recommended, and Gianni Montano reviewed it for Jazz Convention on February 15, 2026. The quartet has played Pisa Jazz, Zola Jazz&Wine, Serravalle Jazz and the Brillante Festival in Modena, and was scheduled for Teatro Il Momento in Empoli on September 17, 2026.

Alongside his own projects, Fagioli is a working sideman in the Tuscan and northern Italian scene. Discogs credits him on trumpet, flugelhorn and other brass on Francesca Gaza's Lilac For People octet albums (Lilac For People, 2019, and Sfiorire, 2022), Nicolò Francesco Faraglia's Smòs Octet (2019), Luca Zennaro's When Nobody Is Listening (2020), Sara Battaglini's Vernal Love (2021), Leonardo Pruneti's When The World Stops Crying (2021), Federico Nuti's InFormal Setting (2022) and, on piccolo trumpet, the electronic-leaning Moods (2024) by TRIOROX with Giovanni Guidi. In the Musica Jazz interview he also describes work with Dario Cecchini's Funk Off, which he says has played Umbria Jazz, Blue Note Milano, and dates in Europe and Japan, and with the Turkish singer Burçin Cingöz and the pop singer Emma Nolde. Listings also show him on the trumpet faculty of the Centro Studi Musica & Arte and working with jazz orchestras across Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna and Umbria.

Fagioli's playing is described by reviewers as luminous in sonority, with a composer's sense of structure. Cerini in Musica Jazz heard Dialogue as a step up from Bilico in emotional weight and rhythmic variety, with multiple influences absorbed rather than quoted. Montano at Jazz Convention heard blues, funk in the manner of Miles Davis, free jazz in the manner of Ornette Coleman, and classical elements, with Strangio's sustained electric guitar tones recalling ECM Records guitarists. The label's and promoters' descriptions add influences from Carnatic and Gnawa music, and place his work between nu jazz, radical improvisation and contemporary music, the product of a training split between classical trumpet and jazz.

He says the music he writes starts from extra-musical sources: books, photography exhibitions and contemporary-art venues such as the Centro Luigi Pecci in Prato. In an All About Jazz interview published in June 2026 he says he has never been fond of the "new talent" label, because it points to the future when young musicians are already part of the present, and that the idea of building a band around a guitar came from listening to Nicholas Payton's Fingerpainting. He also says his classical training gave him a new instrumental companion in the cornet, with its own timbral and expressive possibilities, and his credits range across trumpet, piccolo trumpet, flugelhorn, cornet and trombone.
