Enrico Morello was born in Rome in 1988 and started playing drums at nine. At thirteen he began formal jazz study at the Scuola Popolare di Musica di Testaccio in the capital, and in 2006 and 2008 he attended the summer workshops of Siena Jazz, where he was selected for masterclasses with Enrico Rava and Gianluigi Trovesi. He then completed Siena Jazz's international jazz master's program with the highest honors and a full scholarship. His official biography lists among his teachers there Eric Harland, John Riley, Jeff Ballard, Billy Hart, Adam Nussbaum, Ferenc Nemeth and Ben Perowsky; those are teaching relationships from the biography, not recorded collaborations.

Competition results and scholarships came early. In 2009 his quintet Pentarei took second place at the European Jazz Contest, and he won best-drummer and best-trio awards at Tuscia in Jazz. In 2010 he was chosen to represent Siena Jazz at the Panama Jazz Festival, where he played with a sextet on a tour that included Berklee College of Music, New York University, the Puerto Rico Conservatory and the Paris Conservatoire, and a scholarship the same year sent him to the 2011 meeting of the International Association of Schools of Jazz in Sao Paulo. His first recordings date from 2011: Uncle Ghost (Lhobo) with the avant-garde group I Mostri, and Never Lie (TRJ Records) with the Racing Jazz Quintet.

The rest of the decade tied him to two overlapping circles. One was the young Italian scene around Auand Records, the Puglia label whose catalog carries his sideman work with guitarist Francesco Diodati's Yellow Squeeds (Flow, Home., 2015, and Never The Same, 2019), guitarist Enrico Bracco (Quiet Man, 2015), guitarist Manlio Maresca (Hardcore Chamber Music, 2016, with bassist Matteo Bortone and saxophonist Daniele Tittarelli), pianist Giampiero Locatelli (Right Away, 2018) and pianist Mirko Signorile (Trio Trip, 2018). The other was the piano trio of Alessandro Lanzoni, completed by Bortone, which recorded Dark Flavour (2013) and Seldom (2014, with trumpeter Ralph Alessi featured) for CAM Jazz and returned in 2024 with Reverse Motion (Jam/UnJam), featuring alto saxophonist Francesco Cafiso. Discogs credits Morello as composer of the second track on Reverse Motion, and All About Jazz singles out that piece, "No Hay Bando," as one of the album's Latin-tinged moments.

The defining engagement began in 2014, when he joined trumpeter Enrico Rava's new quartet, the group that recorded Wild Dance for ECM (produced by Manfred Eicher, recorded January 2015 at Artesuono in Udine, released August 28, 2015) with guitarist Francesco Diodati, bassist Gabriele Evangelista and trombonist Gianluca Petrella as guest. The quartet was named Italian Group of the Year in Musica Jazz's critics' poll in 2015. In 2019 it widened into Rava's Special Edition, and Morello was on the stage at Jazz Middelheim in Antwerp on August 18, 2019, when the Belgian broadcaster VRT recorded the set that ECM issued in 2021 as Edizione Speciale, with tenor saxophonist Francesco Bearzatti and pianist Giovanni Guidi alongside Rava, Diodati and Evangelista. Between 2015 and 2018 he also played Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with orchestras in Shanghai and Suzhou, according to his biography.

Morello made his debut as a bandleader and composer with Cyclic Signs (Auand, released March 19, 2021), a quartet record with trumpeter Francesco Lento, alto saxophonist Daniele Tittarelli and bassist Matteo Bortone. Descriptions of the project name Ornette Coleman as the starting inspiration, with dance and the rhythms of everyday life as the driving ideas. A separate co-led project, Chloros Phyllon (Tǔk Music, 2019), places him in a quartet of cello, piano, guitar and drums with cellist Leila Shirvani, pianist Sara Shirvani and Diodati, produced by Paolo Fresu. Since 2018 he has also taught drums and ensemble classes in the three-year program at Siena Jazz University, the same school where he trained.

His Discogs sideman list runs to thirty releases and covers a wide range of settings. He is the regular drummer in saxophonist Maurizio Giammarco's Syncotribe groups (So to Speak, 2019; Only Human, 2020; Bliss Vol.1, 2024), appears on two records by guitarist Andrea Molinari (51, 2019, with trumpeter Alessandro Presti and singer Camilla Battaglia; and Awakening - Il Tutto Nel Nulla, 2025), recorded with bassist Francesco Ponticelli on Ellipses (2014) and Kon-Tiki (2017), and took part in Paolo Fresu's Tǔk Music showcase Around Tǔk (2016, Casa del Jazz), recorded live in Rome on February 2, 2016.

Morello is a drummer who moves between two registers. In the piano-trio and quartet settings that fill most of his catalog, including the Lanzoni trio, Locatelli's Right Away and the Rava quartet, he plays a swinging, conversational post-bop role; a program note for the MITO festival describes "refined drumming" with "astonishing swing and great sensitivity in dynamic choices." Alongside that runs a more exploratory strand, visible in Discogs style tags of Avant-garde Jazz on I Mostri's Uncle Ghost and Manual For Errors' Hardcore Chamber Music, of Free Jazz on Diodati's Flow, Home., and in the effects and percussion he adds to Fresu's Around Tǔk (credited as "Drum, Effects") and to Chloros Phyllon. His own writing draws on that second strand: Cyclic Signs uses a trumpet, alto saxophone, bass and drums quartet with Ornette Coleman as its stated starting inspiration, while the one piece he contributed to Lanzoni's Reverse Motion is described as Latin-tinged. His Discogs credits also include the electronic-leaning Auand anniversary compilation 50 (2016) and a jazz-rock session on Molinari's 51, which Discogs tags Fusion and Jazz-Rock.
