Jacopo Ferrazza was born in 1989 in Frascati, a town in the Castelli Romani hills south-east of Rome, and plays double bass, electric bass and piano. His own biography says he started on guitar at 8, piano at 12, electric bass at 14 and double bass at 18. He studied with his father, Angelo, and with Aldo Perris, Marco Panascia and Luca Cola, and his biography also names John Patitucci and Ares Tavolazzi among his bass teachers. He took a diploma in classical double bass at the Licinio Refice Conservatory in Frosinone in 2015 (with Cola) and a degree in classical piano in 2016. His Italian-language biographies list a run of early prizes: a regional scholarship in 2006, second place at the European Eurobassday competition in 2007, a Young Knight Award in 2009 and the Jimmy Woode Award for best bassist in 2011.

His first record on Discogs is Träume (2012, Zone Di Musica), a trio billed to Claudio Corvini, Ferrazza and drummer Valerio Vantaggio, who has been his most constant partner since. Sideman dates followed: singer Federica Zammarchi's Jimi Hendrix tribute The Jazz Cries Jimi (2013), the Lithium J Quartet's Psychedelic Light (2013), vibraphonist Andrea Biondi's Urban 5tet on Pacman's Nemesis (2014) and Matching Àlea (2018), and the Castelli Jazz Collective's Plays Zawinul (2016), on which the group is joined by accordionist Antonello Salis. In 2014 he also recorded Stabat Mater in Jazz with accordionist Giuliana Soscia, a live jazz reworking of Pergolesi that her own profile describes.

The breakthrough years were 2017 to 2019. His Jacopo Ferrazza Trio, with guitarist Stefano Carbonelli and Vantaggio, made Rebirth (2017) and Theater (2019) for C.A.M. Jazz; the second was recorded in November 2018 at Artesuono in Cavalicco, with liner notes by Brian Morton, co-author of The Penguin Guide to Jazz. His biography quotes Morton ranking him among Europe's best double bassist-composers. In the Musica Jazz Top Jazz poll of 2017, the critics named trumpeter Gabriele Mitelli the best new Italian talent, with Ferrazza among the nominees, and his biographies count further Top Jazz placements in 2019 and 2021. In September 2018 he received the SIAE prize for best Italian talent.

In parallel he became the bassist of Fabrizio Bosso's quartet, alongside pianist Julian Oliver Mazzariello and drummer Nicola Angelucci, a rhythm section that Bosso's own profile dates from 2015. Discogs credits Ferrazza on the quartet's State of the Art Live! (2017, taken from concerts including one recorded at the Teatro Ristori in Verona in November 2016), the seasonal Merry Christmas Baby (2017) and the Stevie Wonder programme We Wonder (2022), and streaming listings show him on the 2026 release Routes. Other credited sideman work in these years includes Giovanni Falzone's Open Quartet on L'Albero Delle Fate (2019) with pianist Enrico Zanisi, the Norma Ensemble's Revelation (2020), Giancarlo Romani's Naïf (2020, with Francesco Bearzatti), pianist Danilo Blaiotta's Departures (2020) and The White Nights Suite (2021, with Bosso and Achille Succi), and drummer Lorenzo Tucci's Happy End (2021, with pianist Claudio Filippini).

Since 2021 he has built his own catalogue around concept records. Wood Tales (2021) is a solo double bass and voice album recorded in December 2020 at Teal Dreamer Studio in Rome, mixing standards such as "Blackbird," "Stardust" and Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Lady" with originals and pieces by Enrico Pieranunzi and Fabio Zeppetella. The label that now issues his records, Teal Dreamers Factory, was founded in 2021, and Fabrijazz's profile says he set it up with his wife, Sophia. Fantàsia (2022), a quintet-plus record with Bosso, Zanisi, cellist Livia De Romanis, saxophonist Marcello Allulli, singer Alessandra Diodati and Vantaggio, won a Global Music Award in 2022, according to his biography. Prometheus (2025), all composed by Ferrazza, retells the Prometheus myth as a story about contemporary people weighed down by fear, conformity and doubt, with Zanisi, De Romanis, Diodati and Vantaggio. It was presented at Rome's Casa del Jazz on March 14, 2025.

His newest records are duos. Dream Scenario (2025, Parco Della Musica Records) pairs him with singer-guitarist Simona Severini in a set of original songs and jazz reinterpretations, and Apeiron (2026), with pianist and synthesist Sebastian Marino, is a 21-track record made in a single February 2026 session without editing, in two sections titled "Epanastasi" and "Oneiro." Ferrazza teaches as well as plays: he has taught in schools and masterclasses since 2009, has taught double bass, ensemble music and jazz composition at conservatory level since 2019, and holds a tenured post in ensemble music at the Frosinone Conservatory. His biography also names Dave Liebman, George Garzone, Enrico Rava and Paolo Fresu among the musicians he has played with, and other biographies add Roberto Gatto and Enrico Pieranunzi; none of those is a Discogs-credited recording.

Ferrazza is a classically trained bassist who plays acoustic and electric bass and piano, and his records treat the double bass as a melodic and textural voice as much as a rhythm instrument. On Wood Tales he plays alone, with voice credited alongside the double bass; on Prometheus and Apeiron he adds synthesizers and electronics, and Discogs tags his own-name records Contemporary Jazz and Fusion, with Electronic and Classical added for Apeiron. Press descriptions of Prometheus speak of cinematic writing that moves between dreamy passages and dramatic, progressive-rock-tinged episodes.

His sideman work spans the acoustic post-bop of the Bosso quartet and D'Auria's The Baggage Room, the Zawinul programme of Plays Zawinul, the electric fusion of Mimmo Langella's Wonderful Life and a chamber record of composed music by Micki Piperno. Each of his own records is built around a single idea, whether a solo bass with a few standards, a myth or a philosophical concept. The title Apeiron is the pre-Socratic word for the unlimited, and the track titles of the album form one continuous poetic text.
