Jaehyun Cho is a bassist and composer who was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, and has worked in Los Angeles and New York. His All About Jazz profile gives his birth date as February 25, 1987, and says he began on electric bass at seventeen. His name is not published in Hangul. He should not be confused with the pianist Jae-Hyuck Cho or with Jaehyun of the K-pop group NCT, who are different people.

His account of his career starts with military service. From 2008 to 2010 he served as a bassist in the Korean Air Force band, and in 2009 he went to the international military band festival in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, as a member of Korea's national military band, according to his All About Jazz profile.

In 2012 he moved to Los Angeles and enrolled at California State University, Northridge, where the same profile says he studied and performed with Gary Pratt, Dave Robaire, Gary Fukushima and Mike Mull, among others. In 2018 he moved to New York City for the master's program at New York University, where his teachers included the bassist Drew Gress and the drummer Billy Drummond, along with Alan Ferber and Mike Rodriguez.

In 2019 he recorded his debut album, Pursue, in New York with the trumpeter Alex Sipiagin, the tenor saxophonist Rich Perry, the pianist Nery Kim and the drummer Mark Ferber. He wrote all of the music and designed the cover. The recording was made by Hai Li at Dorlan Studio and mixed and mastered by Dave Darlington at Bass Hit Studio, both in New York. Pursue was released on April 19, 2021. It is his only album under his own name; no other recordings or sideman credits are documented.

His All About Jazz profile, last updated in May 2021, adds that he had decided to keep pursuing his academic goals and had been admitted to the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. His Bandcamp page lists New York as his base.

Pursue is a quintet record of original compositions for trumpet and flugelhorn, tenor saxophone, piano, bass and drums. His Bandcamp tags describe it as modern jazz, post-bop and swing, and Nery Kim, who plays piano on it, recommends the album on her own Bandcamp page for its Latin, swing and straight feels. Two of the track titles, "Los York" and "Northridge," line up with places in his own story: Los Angeles, New York and the Northridge campus where he studied.

Six of the seven tracks run longer than six minutes, up to the 7:45 of "Northridge," and the closing track is an alternate version of "The Days Gone By," so the album offers two takes of one tune. He has not published a list of influences, so the lineage given here is his teachers: the New York bassist Drew Gress and drummer Billy Drummond, and the Los Angeles-area teachers named in his biography.
