Mariano Tedde is a Sardinian jazz pianist, composer and educator based in Sassari, active as a bandleader since the early 1990s and, since 1999, the stable pianist of the Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna (OJS), a Sassari big band founded in 1989 that has toured China (2001) and Spain (2004). Two of his recordings with the orchestra are independently confirmed at the Discogs credit level, both made under guest conductor Giorgio Gaslini: Sacred Concert / Jazz Te Deum (2002, Soul Note), on which he plays piano alongside trumpet soloist Paolo Fresu and vocalist Maria Pia De Vito, and Il Brutto Anatroccolo (2005, Il Manifesto), on which Fresu again guests. Both recordings also credit fellow OJS members Dante Casu (alto saxophone), Gavino Mele (French horn) and Luca Uras (trumpet), with Luca Piana on drums.

Alongside his orchestra chair, Tedde leads his own small groups. He is the composer and arranger of the Woodstore Quintet, which won first prize at the Barga Jazz Concorso in 2001 and recorded Distanza (2002, Splasc(h) Records) and 41st Parallel (2005, Nagel Heyer Records), the latter featuring American trumpeter Tim Hagans as a guest. In 2011 he appears on electric piano with the group Mudras on Skywalkin' (Blue Serge), alongside saxophonist Gavino Murgia. Under his own name he has led a series of tribute and repertoire projects, among them a Wayne Shorter tribute, a Miles Davis homage, a Chet Baker tribute, a Thelonious Monk homage, the American Songbook Ensemble, the Mariano Tedde Septet and the Timepiece Trio, and he originated "Jazz al Microscopio," a jazz-education outreach project. His quartet's most recent studio album, Path in the Dark (2024), is dedicated to bassist Piero Di Rienzo, a longtime member of the group; the quartet has continued performing regionally with substitute bassists after Di Rienzo died.

Since 2005 Tedde has taught jazz piano at the Conservatorio di Musica "Luigi Canepa" in Sassari. Regional press and concert-program biographies credit him with collaborations, in performance rather than on a confirmed joint recording, alongside musicians including Tom Harrell, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, Norma Winstone, Andy Sheppard, Bob Mintzer, Furio Di Castri, David Linx, Bruno Tommaso and Giovanni Falzone; these are stated here as reported career collaborations rather than Discogs-verified credits.

Tedde's musical identity spans two registers: a section pianist inside the orchestral big-band tradition, and a small-group leader working in the post-bop and standards idiom. His work with the Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna, particularly the two Giorgio Gaslini-directed recordings, places him inside large-scale orchestral jazz writing with a sacred-music dimension (Sacred Concert / Jazz Te Deum sets a jazz Mass). His own combo projects run the other direction: a working quartet/quintet book built from jazz-tradition tribute programs (Shorter, Davis, Monk, Baker) and original compositions, most recently the melodic, standards-adjacent writing on Path in the Dark. His studies included masterclasses with European and American pianists spanning the mainstream and bebop lineage, consistent with the harmonically grounded, swing-rooted style his concert reviews describe.
