Fabio Giachino was born in 1986 in Alba, in Piedmont, and lives in Turin. He studied organ and piano at Turin's G. Verdi Conservatory alongside a full academic jazz course, and his label biography lists Antonio Faraò, Dado Moroni, Roberto Zegna and Danilo Rea among his teachers; Moroni describes his playing as lyrical and current while rooted in the history of jazz.

The breakthrough came in 2011. As a soloist he won the Premio Internazionale Massimo Urbani, the Premio Nazionale Chicco Bettinardi and the JazzUp channel's Red Award for revelation of the year; his trio also took the Carrarese Padova Porsche Festival prize, and Musica Jazz issued the Porsche "Giovani e Jazz 2011" compilation with a Giachino Trio track on it. He recorded that trio's debut, Introducing Myself (Musicamdo, 2012), at Play Studio in Bricherasio on 14, 16 and 18 September 2011, with bassist Davide Liberti and drummer Ruben Bellavia. Alto saxophonist Rosario Giuliani guests on four tracks and Furio Di Castri wrote liner notes; JazzIt put the record on its 2012 list of the 100 greatest albums, and the pianist appeared in the magazine's JazzIt Awards top ten of Italian pianists from 2011 through at least 2013.

Two more trio albums for Abeat followed: Jumble Up (2014) and Blazar (2015), the latter with liner notes by trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso. In between came his first solo-piano record, Balancing Dreams (Tosky Records, November 2015), which mixes originals with pieces by Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington and includes a hip-hop collaboration with the rapper Ensi. In 2014 the trio won the Best Band special prize at the Bucharest International Competition. North Clouds (Tosky, 2017) paired him with bassist Matthias Petri and drummer Espen Laub, with Benjamin Koppel on saxophones and Paolo Russo on bandoneon as guests.

In 2019 he moved to CAM Jazz, first with At The Edges Of The Horizon (released 27 September 2019), a trio record in which a four-piece horn section (Gianni Verone, Paolo Porta, Luca Begonia and Cesare Mecca) joins on five of the ten tracks and vocalist Giuliano D'Amico appears on one. Limitless (23 July 2021) is a solo record of piano and live electronics, recorded in April 2021 and framed around the idea that 88 keys can hold unlimited music; Brian Morton wrote the liner notes. In interviews around its release he cited techno producers such as Stephan Bodzin and Floating Points as interests.

The electronic side has its own group. In TUN (Torino Unlimited Noise) he plays synthesizer and piano with saxophonist Gianni Denitto and drummer Mattia Barbieri; their debut New Door came out on 21 May 2021 on the techno-jazz label Jazz-o-Tech. He also records in acoustic duos. Things To Say (CAM Jazz, 21 April 2022) pairs him with trumpeter Flavio Boltro, recorded at Riverside Studio in Turin in December 2020; Mizu (Felmay, 30 September 2022) is a strictly acoustic set of thirteen pieces with bassist Federico Marchesano; and A Jazz Affair (Abeat, 2022) puts six standards in front of Emanuele Cisi's tenor and soprano saxophones. With Boltro he also plays in the 2024 Verdi quintet project Veste Rosa, alongside saxophonist Gavino Murgia, singer Giuliano D'Amico and Liberti.

He is the pianist in a quartet led by saxophonist Enzo Favata, with vibraphonist Pasquale Mirra and drummer Marco Frattini, which produced the live Salt Way (2023) and the studio album Paucartambo (13 March 2026). He appears on Di Castri's Sunday Afternoon (2024) on keyboards and effects with Giovanni Falzone, Achille Succi and Mattia Barbieri, and on Luca Aquino's ACT album Italian Songbook (2019), where he shares piano duties with Rea. His newest projects are Tribe Tales (19 December 2025), a trio record with Spanish bassist Manel Fortià and drummer-vocalist Abril Saurì that premiered at the Torino Jazz Festival on 23 April 2025, and an electronics-and-trumpet duo with Aki Himanen, Echoes of Synchrome, whose EP appeared in May 2026. He is also a winner of the I-Jazz association's Nuova Generazione Jazz award.

Giachino is a jazz pianist first: every leader and co-leader album in his catalogue is filed under jazz on Discogs, and his trio records sit in the post-bop and straight-ahead tradition, with lyrical melodies and the hard-driving trio interplay that All About Jazz's review of At The Edges Of The Horizon singles out. Standards and jazz repertoire recur throughout, from Monk and Ellington on Balancing Dreams to the six standards of A Jazz Affair.

Since Limitless the electronics have become a second language rather than a decoration. He plays synthesizer in TUN, builds solo sets around live processing, and a March 2026 Turin performance for piano and live electronics, Nothing Wrong, took its premise from an encounter between Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis, treating the unexpected as material. An acoustic duo record like Mizu and a techno-jazz trio like TUN come from the same player.
