Andrea Pozza was born in Genoa on October 17, 1965. He started on piano as a child, studying jazz and classical music in parallel, and made his public debut at 13 at the Louisiana Jazz Club in his home city - the same venue where, in the years that followed, he began sitting in with visiting American musicians passing through Genoa's club circuit. He went on to earn his diploma from the Conservatorio Niccolò Paganini in Genoa under Franco Trabucco in 1986/87, and later taught at the Conservatorio di Milano before returning to Paganini, where he has taught jazz piano, improvisation, jazz composition and ensemble playing ever since.

His competition record came early: selected by international jury in 1980 for a RAI/Radiouno orchestra of young European jazz talents, fifth place with his trio at RAI's Coppa del Jazz in 1985, and first prize as a composer at the Gran Premio del Jazz (sponsored by AICS and the Valle d'Aosta region, with prizes underwritten by SIAE) in 1992.

Pozza's Discogs artist entity (738710, a single unambiguous identity - his profile there independently states "Born: October 17, 1965 in Genoa, Italy," matching every other source checked) carries 89 total credits: 18 as leader/co-leader, 66 as a sideman, and 4 track appearances. Much of that sideman work runs through tenor saxophonist Gianni Basso, in whose quartet and big band Pozza appears across more than a dozen Philology-label releases from 2000 through the label's 2018 career-retrospective box set, including duo and quintet dates that brought in Enrico Rava (Tea for Two (Another Flashback), 2005) and trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso (the Five Brothers / Remembering Chet & Jeru series, 2005-2007, and Cool Trane / 'S Wonderful, 2007) - all confirmed at the Discogs release-credit level with Pozza named on piano.

Pozza also recorded and toured directly alongside Rava rather than only through Basso's group: he is the credited pianist on the Enrico Rava Quartet's Live in Montréal (2006, EmArcy), sharing the piano chair on that date with alto saxophonist Francesco Cafiso, and he co-billed his own trio session Stormy Weather (2005, Philology) as "Andrea Pozza Meets Enrico Rava," with bassist Ares Tavolazzi and drummer Stefano Bagnoli completing the quartet.

The most sustained of his international partnerships was with American tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton, documented across at least three Discogs-verified releases on the audiophile label Fone: the duo albums I Could Write a Book (2013) and Who Cares? (2015), both co-billed "Scott Hamilton, Andrea Pozza," and the group session Scott Hamilton & Friends (2018), on which Pozza is again credited on piano. A 2013 Wikimedia Commons photograph (used below) documents the two performing together as a working quartet at that year's INNtöne Jazzfestival in Austria, alongside bassist Aldo Zunino and drummer Alfred Kramer.

As a leader, Pozza's own catalog runs from Introducing (2004, Philology), the debut of his long-running Andrea Pozza Trio, through Sintetico and Love Walked In (2007-2008, 33 Records), several trio dates for Norma Blu and Abeat Records in 2010-2013, Siciliana (2016, Trio Records) and Melodies (2019, Caligola), to The Wisteria Suites (2021, Koine Records/Dodicilune) and Dedicated to Steve Grossman (2021, Alessa Records) - the latter a tribute record built around Grossman compositions, featuring tenor saxophonist Piero Odorici and trumpeter Stéphane Belmondo, rather than a co-recording with Grossman himself. Italian-language sources, including his Italian Wikipedia entry, also credit stage and studio collaborations across his career with Harry "Sweet" Edison, Bobby Durham, Chet Baker, Al Grey, George Coleman, Charlie Mariano, Lee Konitz and Sal Nistico; the Charlie Mariano, Lee Konitz and Sal Nistico credits are independently confirmed on Discogs (the Charlie Mariano Quartet's An American in Italy, 1998; the Phil Woods/Lee Konitz Quintet's Play Konitz, 2004; and Sal Nistico E Tullio De Piscopo - Jazz Friends, 2000), while the Chet Baker, Clark Terry and James Moody credits mentioned in press bios could not be matched to a specific Discogs release in this pass and are flagged as press-sourced rather than discography-verified (see notes.md).

Pozza remains active as both performer and educator, continuing to lead his trio and record for Italian independent labels while teaching at the Paganini Conservatory in Genoa.

Pozza works in a mainstream, hard-bop-rooted piano style built for the small-group swing tradition - the same idiom as the American tenor players (Hamilton, Basso, Nistico) and trumpeters (Rava, Bosso) he has spent his career accompanying and duetting with. His trio recordings favor the standards-and-original-compositions format typical of the working piano trio, while his duo work with Scott Hamilton leans into the warm, Ben Webster-descended "cool tenor" repertoire Hamilton is known for. His deepest working relationship, with Gianni Basso, put him inside a bebop-and-swing lineage stretching back to Basso's own 1950s-60s Italian jazz generation, while his direct dates with Enrico Rava's more exploratory postbop quartet show a pianist equally comfortable stretching outside a straight-ahead frame when the session calls for it.
