Andrea Dulbecco is an Italian vibraphonist, marimba player and percussionist from San Remo, on the Ligurian coast. He graduated with highest honors in percussion instruments under Franco Campioni at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, where he also studied composition and earned a piano diploma, and later specialized in vibraphone with David Friedman in Berlin.

He has built two careers in parallel since graduating. As a classical and contemporary-music percussionist, he has appeared as a soloist with Milan's Orchestra Angelicum, the Graz Conservatory orchestra, RAI Milan and the San Remo Symphony Orchestra, and as a chamber musician with Milan's Società del Quartetto and Società dei Concerti, Turin's Unione Musicale, Rome's Accademia di Santa Cecilia and Teatro alla Scala, working alongside collaborators including cellist Mario Brunello and composer Ennio Morricone. He has been a permanent member of Sentieri Selvaggi, the contemporary-music ensemble directed by composer Carlo Boccadoro, since close to its founding in the late 1990s; Boccadoro has dedicated compositions to him. The ensemble's own Discogs-documented catalog includes recordings of Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Gavin Bryars, Michael Nyman and John Cage repertoire for labels including Cantaloupe Music.

Running alongside that classical career, Dulbecco maintains what his own Sentieri Selvaggi biography describes as "an intense activity as a jazz vibraphonist." Discogs credits confirm real, dated jazz sessions with several major names: marimba on Furio Di Castri's Scalabrun (1995, Queyras Val Pellice), recorded alongside trumpeter Paolo Fresu; vibraphone on Gianluigi Trovesi's Around Small Fairy Tales (1998, Soul Note), with the Orchestra da Camera di Nembro; vibraphone alongside Giorgio Gaslini's own piano on Gaslini's Ballets (1998, Soul Note); vibraphone as "special guest" on Enrico Pieranunzi's Time's Passage (2020, Abeat Records), alongside drummer André Ceccarelli and bassist Luca Bulgarelli; and vibraphone alongside bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Adam Nussbaum on singer Lara Iacovini's Right Together (2013, Abeat Records). He was also the regular vibraphonist on two albums pianist Dado Moroni recorded with American trumpeter Tom Harrell - The Cube (2008) and, with saxophonist Bob Mintzer added, Quiet Yesterday (2012) - both on Abeat Records' Signature Series. Multiple independent biographical sources (Sentieri Selvaggi's own artist page and the Barnum For Art agency's profile of him) also name Enrico Rava and Dave Liebman among his recording and performing partners, though no specific dated recording or Discogs credit for either connection could be independently verified for this build.

Since 1997, Dulbecco has also co-led the Aisha Duo with marimba and vibraphone player Luca Gusella, whom he met in the same percussion class at the Milan Conservatory; on the duo's own records, Dulbecco plays vibraphone and Gusella plays marimba. Their sole studio album, Quiet Songs (2005, ObliqSound), sets eight of Chick Corea's "Children's Songs" for mallets alongside original compositions and other pieces, with guest appearances from frame-drum player Glen Velez and cellist Marco Decimo. Two of its tracks, "Amanda" and "Despertar," were bundled as default sample audio files with Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system - a rare mainstream footprint for an Italian mallet-jazz duo.

As a leader, Dulbecco has recorded Sunday Afternoon (2008, Abeat Records) with his own trio; Canzoni (2010, Abeat Records), a quartet record of Italian and French song repertoire with French trumpeter Stéphane Belmondo, bassist Thomas Bramerie and drummer André Ceccarelli; Simul (2019, Barnum For Art), a duo record with guitarist Bebo Ferra on which he alternates between vibraphone and marimba; and Voices (2024, Parallel Records), a quartet with pianist Giovanni Ceccarelli, bassist Salvatore Maiore and drummer Paolo Orlandi.

He teaches percussion instruments at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan and vibraphone and improvisation at Milan's Accademia del Suono (Sound Academy), and has published his own method book for vibraphone.

Dulbecco's catalog runs the same two-track path as several of his Sentieri Selvaggi colleagues: a contemporary-classical practice built on notated scores - Reich, Glass, Bryars, Nyman, Cage, and pieces Boccadoro wrote specifically for him - sitting alongside a straight-ahead, mainstream-leaning jazz vibraphone practice descended from his own teacher David Friedman's lineage. His most sustained jazz outlet, the Aisha Duo, works in an intimate chamber-jazz register - vibraphone, marimba, frame drums and cello, without a rhythm section - that matches Wikipedia's own genre tags for the group (jazz, avant-garde, new-age). His sideman work with Dado Moroni's "The Cube," by contrast, sits in a conventional post-bop rhythm-section-plus-horns format built around two visiting American soloists, Tom Harrell and Bob Mintzer.
