Ofer Landsberg is a guitarist who has built a career almost entirely inside one tradition: bebop, learned first-hand from the musicians who kept it alive in New York. He started on guitar at seven, and at seventeen, in the early 2000s, he left Tel Aviv for New York specifically to be near pianist Barry Harris and the scene that gathered around the Manhattan club Smalls. He studied early on with the saxophonist Arnie Lawrence, and within his first years in the city he was performing regularly alongside NYC veterans, pianist Frank Hewitt, drummer Jimmy Lovelace, pianist Gil Coggins, and Jimmy Wormsworth, while running in a circle that also included saxophonists Chris Byars and Zaid Nasser, bassist Ari Roland, and drummer Keith Balla. He became, in his own words on a jazz guitar forum, "a steady participant" in Barry Harris's workshops, and Harris remained his defining mentor and teacher of record for everything that followed. Landsberg has quoted Harris's own explanation for a life spent on an unfashionable style: "if bebop was popular, I'd end up doing something else."

He carried that education home. Back in Israel, his early working group, the Ofer Landsberg Trio, recorded three tracks, "I'll Remember April," "Polka Dots and Moonbeams," and "I'll Walk Alone," for a 2004 live compilation, Jazz In Milestone, taped at the Milestone club in Israel's Shuni Fortress and issued on Timeless Recordings; that trio paired him with bassist Opher Schneider and drummer Shy Zelman. He also self-released a trio album, Invisible Scene, the same year, though it survives today only as a listing with sample clips on the Israel Music retail site rather than in any music database. From 2005 to 2013 he taught guitar and improvisation at Israeli institutions including the Shtricker Conservatory, Ironi Alef Arts High School, Conservatory Misra, and Mizmor Music School. In this period he also formed a New York-born organ trio, guitar, organ, and drums, with organist Yonatan Riklis and drummer Doron Tirosh, a group billed as bringing "the intimate yet turbulent 40s and 50s sound" to venues including the Jerusalem Jazz Festival.

Landsberg's international touring picked up through the 2010s: a headlining Quintet set at the Red Sea Jazz Festival in 2015, stretches of time living in the Netherlands and then London, and appearances at the EFG London Jazz Festival, Bopfest, the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival, the Swansea International Jazz Festival, and the Aphrodite Hills Jazz Festival in Cyprus, at venues that included Ronnie Scott's in London, Duc des Lombards in Paris, Bird's Eye Jazz Club in Basel, Jazz Club d'Annecy in France, B-flat in Berlin, and Jazzcafé Dizzy in the Netherlands. While based in London around 2017 and 2018 he ran his own weekly workshop modeled directly on Barry Harris's classes, was invited as a guest lecturer at Manchester University and an ensemble coach at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and served as a guest instructor for the U.S. Embassy-sponsored Jazz Futures Bi-Communal Program in Cyprus. It was during this period that he released his most fully documented album as a leader, I'll Be Around (2018), credited to the Ofer Landsberg Quartet with pianist Alex Bryson, bassist Dario Di Lecce, and drummer Matt Fishwick: ten tracks built entirely from the bebop and standards repertoire, including "Bebop," "Shaw 'Nuff," and the title track. Reviewing it for London Jazz News, Leonard Weinreich called Landsberg "a bebop master, knowledgeable and unashamed to be playing changes" whose playing "refreshes the music and strengthens its relevance," praising his "individual inventiveness, articulation and emotional artistry." The same quartet brought the record to the stage on November 24, 2018, at Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club in London as part of Bopfest and the EFG London Jazz Festival, where a London Jazz News review described Landsberg's "gymnastic fingers" moving through "whirling patterns at blistering pace."

Landsberg moved back to Israel in 2019 and has been based in Tel Aviv since. In August 2020 he was the guitarist on saxophonist Ofer Shapira's album Lockdown, recorded at SnR Studios in Tel Aviv with bassist Ram Erez and Doron Tirosh again on drums; Michael Steinman, reviewing it on his Jazz Lives blog, described the quartet's playing as "melodic and thoughtful." In 2023 he played guitar on jazz vocalist Charlotte Storer's debut album Meandering, recorded in the Netherlands with bassist Uli Glassmann and the veteran Dutch drummer Eric Ineke; Storer, a Cyprus-connected vocalist who came up through the same Jazz Futures program in Nicosia that Landsberg had guest-taught for, set original lyrics to a Tadd Dameron composition and a Charlie Parker outtake solo on that record. That same February, the Ofer Landsberg Quartet toured to Nicosia, Cyprus, for a date at Sarah's Jazz Club with a local rhythm section, bassist Ireneous Koulouras, pianist Dimitris Miaris, and drummer Marios Spyrou, continuing the pattern of a touring bebop specialist who plugs into local bands wherever he plays.

Landsberg names pianists rather than guitarists as his defining influences, Barry Harris chief among them, alongside Bud Powell and Elmo Hope, with Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Don Byas, and Art Tatum rounding out a lineage drawn almost entirely from the bebop era. That grounding shows directly in his playing: reviewers have described "bell-like single tones" alternating "with fast-flowing legato, each note cleanly stated," and, on faster material, "gymnastic fingers" running "whirling patterns at blistering pace." His repertoire choices reinforce the same commitment, built overwhelmingly from bebop-era standards and contrafacts rather than original writing or fusion detours. He treats that commitment as a matter of conviction rather than fashion, quoting his mentor Barry Harris's own explanation for the choice: "if bebop was popular, I'd end up doing something else." That same conviction carries into his long parallel career as a teacher, running workshops in Israel, London, and Cyprus built directly on the Barry Harris pedagogical method rather than a personal variation on it.
