Ofir Shwartz was born in Haifa on July 13, 1979, and began classical piano at two before discovering jazz around puberty and starting his professional career at twenty. He formed the Ofir Shwartz Trio — sources on his own site disagree on whether this was in 2006 or 2008 — with double bassist Amitai Ladin and drummer Elad Aizikowitz, releasing the debut album Earlier in Time (sHmoo Records, 2010). The trio's lineup later changed to bassist Gal Shaya and Slovenian drummer Gašper Bertoncelj for its second album, Shades of Fish (Hevhetia, 2013), which All About Jazz reviewed favorably, comparing his playing to Keith Jarrett and Bobo Stenson. He also appears as a sideman on keyboards and piano with Yuval Ron & Residents of the Future, a jazz-rock and progressive-fusion project led by Israeli-American composer Yuval Ron, on the releases Futuristic Worlds Under Construction (2004) and Residence of the Future (2009), and co-wrote one track for the latter. In 2006 he performed with Residents of the Future at the Klaipėda International Jazz Festival in Lithuania. His own biography credits him with multiple Israeli Ministry of Culture prizes for creativity in music and a Haifa Arts Foundation prize for jazz musician, and describes touring support from Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs; these claims could not be independently corroborated beyond his own site and its repetition on Wikipedia.

All About Jazz's review of Shades of Fish placed Shwartz's playing alongside Keith Jarrett and Bobo Stenson — a lyrical, harmonically open trio style consistent across both of his leader albums. His sideman work with Yuval Ron's Residents of the Future sits outside straight jazz, in jazz-rock and progressive-fusion territory, giving his catalogue a wider stylistic range than his trio work alone suggests.
