Duduka Da Fonseca, born Eduardo Moreira Da Fonseca in Rio de Janeiro, moved to New York City in 1975 and became one of the most sought-after Brazilian drummers on the American jazz scene. Over five decades he has worked with Antonio Carlos Jobim, Herbie Mann, John Scofield, Gerry Mulligan, and Joe Henderson, helping bring the rhythms of samba jazz and bossa nova into the vocabulary of American jazz.

Since 1986, Da Fonseca has co-led Trio da Paz with bassist Nilson Matta and guitarist Romero Lubambo, one of the longest-running and most respected Brazilian jazz groups working out of New York.

Da Fonseca's playing is rooted in the samba and bossa nova traditions of his native Rio de Janeiro, adapted to the small-group jazz format through decades of work alongside American jazz figures — a fusion embodied most fully in Trio da Paz's repertoire.
