Gianluca Mosole is a guitarist from Treviso, in the Veneto, who has spent forty years in Italian jazz fusion. He plays a standard-strung guitar left-handed, without reversing the strings, and by Italian Wikipedia's account he won a guitar competition run by CBS at sixteen. At twenty he made his first record, the mini-LP After Rain, recorded in December 1983 at the Gulliver Recording Studio with bassist Paolo Carletto, drummer Ivan Lucchetta and percussionist Stefano Sgorbati and issued by Holly Records.

His major-label years followed. Eartheart (1985 or 1986, depending on the source) has the Brazilian percussionist and vocalist Naná Vasconcelos on percussion, berimbau and voice. Tepore (Fonit Cetra, 1987) is the record with the biggest names: Discogs itemizes bassist Miroslav Vitous and percussionist and drummer Airto Moreira on three tracks, and guitarist Hiram Bullock on two more, with keyboardist Vittorio Cosma across the sessions at Psycho Studios in Milan in May and June 1987. Open Streets (Fonit Cetra, 1989), recorded in Treviso in December 1988, moves toward pop with vocals by Manuela Panizzo. Magazine (1991) returned to instrumental fusion with drummer Tom Brechtlein, bassist Oskar Cartaya and, on some tracks, vocalist Lisa Hunt; it is credited to the small label Sentemo Records on Discogs, while his Italian Wikipedia entry places it with United Project in 1992.

Italian Wikipedia also says that between 1986 and 1992 he opened for Gil Evans and Sting at Umbria Jazz in 1987, for Miles Davis at the Palatrussardi in Milan and the Palaeur in Rome, and for Al Di Meola and the Paul Motian and Bill Frisell quartet. The same entry says specialist magazines repeatedly named him the best contemporary jazz guitarist in Italy.

From 1995 to 1999 he worked in a different lane. As the guitarist, producer and programmer of the soul and R&B project Kaigo, with vocalist and co-producer Donato Losito, he made Con l'accento sulla i (1997) and, for WEA, Freeabile (1999), on which Discogs credits him with guitar and all instruments, production, programming, arrangement and composition. Discogs also gives him producer credits on Italian dance and house records between 1993 and 2002, including the D-Other project with Losito. That work runs alongside, not in place of, the fusion records: Discogs tags every one of his own solo albums as Jazz.

In June 2005 he was invited to the Rochester International Jazz Festival in New York State for the preview of No Title, according to Italian Wikipedia, and the same year he took part in a benefit concert called Old Friends and New Friends at the Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido in Venice, on a bill that included the Joe and Gino Vannelli band and Peter Erskine. No Title itself came out in 2006, with vocals by Cece Rogers, Moony and Manuela Panizzo and, per Italian Wikipedia, trumpeter Marco Tamburini. A one-man-band record made with computer and guitar followed in 2010, and Verona Studio / Live (Azzurra Music) in 2013, credited to the Gianluca Mosole Band with bassist Raffaele Bianco, drummer Phil Mer and vocalists Alex Balestrieri and Simone Dinelli.

He has kept working since. Regional press reported a fusion quintet with Panizzo, pianist Dario Dal Molin, Bianco and Mer at the Cantine de l'Arena on March 20, 2016. Believe It (Playaudio, 2018) is a 16-track collection built around compositions first heard on his earlier albums. On January 26, 2024 he released the single "Corner Pocket / Tower of Silence", described in the announcement as a medley cover of Weather Report, alongside reissues of After Rain (for its 40th anniversary), No Title and Verona Studio & Live. On July 14, 2024 his quintet played the 28th Gărâna Jazz Festival in Romania.

Mosole is an electric-guitar fusion player in the line of jazz-rock and jazz-funk: long, melodic guitar lines over a groove, guitar synthesizer and keyboards used as a second voice, and a taste for vocal features. His own tune list shows the reach, from originals such as "Scozia", "Melanina" and "Skip Search" to a version of "Maiden Voyage" on the 2013 live record and standards such as "Nardis" and "The Look of Love" on No Title. His DV Mark artist page names George Benson, Larry Carlton and Pat Metheny as his main influences, and the 2024 single points at Weather Report.

His catalog is not all jazz. The Kaigo albums are soul, funk and hip-hop, Open Streets leans toward pop, and his Discogs page carries house and dance-floor production credits and a pair of acoustic rock releases with singer Steve Saluto. The fusion records are what he leads under his own name, and they are the work a jazz festival such as Gărâna presented in 2024.
