Antonio Pitzoi is a jazz guitarist and a jazz-guitar faculty member at the Sassari Conservatory "Luigi Canepa," in northern Sardinia. Per his own conservatory biography, he picked up the guitar at six and was self-taught until nineteen, when he enrolled at Sassari's Birdland Music School to study under Giovanni Agostino Frassetto and guitarist Fabio Mariani, and attended a jazz guitar seminar led by Franco Cerri, already profiled on this site. He went on to study improvisation with Umberto Fiorentino through 1996, then twice attended Rome's Percentomusica program (2000-2001 and again 2004-2005) under Fiorentino, Massimo Fedeli, Fabio Zeppetella and Maurizio Giammarco. He holds a classical guitar diploma from Florence's Luigi Cherubini Conservatory (2003, under Roberto Masala) and a solfeggio certificate from the Sassari conservatory (2002, under Antonio Marongiu), and in 2014 earned a Jazz Guitar performance degree with distinction from the same Sassari conservatory, where he now teaches jazz guitar performance practice and repertoire.

Since 2010, Pitzoi has been a guitarist in the Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna (OJS), the Sassari-based big band that has operated continuously since its 1989 founding as the Blue Note Orchestra (renamed OJS in 1996); he remains part of the orchestra's own published 2025 core roster. The Associazione Blue Note Orchestra's own OJS discography page names him directly as guitarist on two Bruno Tommaso-directed releases, Bruno Tommaso e i solisti della OJDS (2016) and Concerto Grosso (L'eccezione e la regola) (2020); his own conservatory biography separately credits him with I Solisti Dell'Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna (2016, again under Tommaso's direction) and Agora Tà (2012, featuring vocalist Barbara Casini, directed and arranged by Paolo Silvestri). His most fully documented credit is Tommaso's Jazz Requiem Mass, composed specifically for OJS and premiered on a three-city Sardinian tour (Cagliari, Nuoro and Sassari) around November 20-22, 2021, then recorded for CD release under Tommaso and conductor Mario Raja at Teatro Verdi in Sassari in February 2022; coverage of that production places Pitzoi on guitar in the same credited ensemble as double bassist Alessandro Zolo, also profiled on this site, alongside flutist Tony Chessa, saxophonists Gian Piero Carta, Massimo Carboni and Marco Maiore, brass players Emanuele Dau and Salvatore Moraccini, violinist Alessandra Cocco, cellist Salvatore Maiore, pianist Salvatore Spano and drummer Luca Piana.

Pitzoi also leads his own Antonio Pitzoi Trio, with bassist Fabrizio Leoni and drummer Luca Piana, performing original compositions; covering an October 2016 performance in Siniscola, La Nuova Sardegna described the group's sound as drawing on classical music, rock and blues alongside jazz. In June 2025 he appeared in a Quartetto Songbook at the Sassari conservatory's own concert series, playing American jazz standards associated with Chet Baker and Frank Sinatra alongside fellow conservatory faculty Luca Piana (drums) and Nicola Muresu (double bass). Outside jazz, his conservatory biography also credits him as a performer on two releases outside the jazz mainstream, both predating his 2014 jazz guitar degree: Ur (2006), a Sardinian-language folk album by the group Cordas et Cannas, and Legàmi (2012/2013) with the ensemble Almacanta. Several secondary sources also describe concert work through the Sassari-based Ensemble Laborintus, whose own materials describe crossing classical, jazz, rock and singer-songwriter repertoire with theatrical elements, and name singer Antonella Ruggiero, saxophonist Gavino Murgia and pianist/accordionist Antonello Salis as collaborators there. No specific dated performance or recording tying Pitzoi personally to Murgia or Salis could be independently confirmed against a fetchable primary source, so that connection is noted rather than treated as a confirmed credit-level link (see antonio-pitzoi_notes.md).

Pitzoi's most consistently documented context is straight-ahead big-band and orchestral jazz: fifteen years inside OJS's reed-brass-rhythm big-band structure under conductors including Bruno Tommaso, and a standards-repertoire quartet built around the Chet Baker/Frank Sinatra American songbook. His own trio pulls in a different direction: regional press covering it described a sound blending jazz with classical, rock and blues elements. No genuinely non-jazz commercial or pop output was found in his history beyond the two credits noted above (Cordas et Cannas, Almacanta), both dating from before his 2014 jazz guitar degree and his conservatory teaching appointment.
