Eitan Itzcovich is a Tel Aviv-based jazz drummer and educator who has spent four decades as one of Israel's most in-demand drummers, splitting his career between straight-ahead jazz dates and studio session work for the country's biggest pop and folk names. He trained in jazz performance at Berklee College of Music in the mid-1980s and holds a bachelor's degree from the Manhattan School of Music in New York (the exact sequence of the two is not confirmed in any single source; see notes.md). For decades he has taught on the drum faculty of the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, where his courses include a drum-toolbox class and advanced rhythmic ear training alongside private lessons in the drums performance track; his students have included drummers Koren Berkovich and Ronen Itzik.

His most visible jazz credential is as a founding member of the Hard Jazz Knights, formed in 1997 as a special project for the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival, bringing together some of Israel's leading jazz musicians to rework the Beatles songbook in jazz arrangements spanning up-tempo swing, bossa, Latin, Afro-Cuban, ballad, and blues styles. The group played the Red Sea Jazz Festival in 1999 and released the album Jazzing the Beatles in 2008; a related, earlier Beatles-in-jazz project credited simply as Jazz Beatles appeared in 2000. Itzcovich also drums on pianist Yaron Gottfried's The Baroque Jazz Project (2008), and on saxophonist Ilan Salem's Twists & Turns, recorded at Clinton Studios in New York in February 2005 and released on the Israeli label Jazz972, a trio session featuring American pianist Kenny Werner and bassist Johannes Weidenmueller.

In 2012, Itzcovich played drums on pianist Ari Erev's self-produced album A Handful of Changes, recorded at Pluto Studios in Tel Aviv alongside American saxophonist Joel Frahm (a regular collaborator of Brad Mehldau and Kenny Barron), bassist Arie Volinez, percussionist Gilad Dobrecky, bassist Tal Ronen, and reedman Ofer Shapiro. All About Jazz's Edward Blanco called the record "quite a handful of a session in the best tradition of mainstream, straight-ahead jazz," praising its "Latin elements" and "assertive bop-ish flair." Itzcovich also plays drums on soprano saxophonist Yuval Cohen's spoken-word-and-jazz collaborations with poet-composer Michael Sidi-Levy and pianist Yorai Oron, including the tracks "Now Memories" (2018) and "Advice," and appears on a 2008 single alongside bassist Arnon Palty.

Outside jazz, Itzcovich's session discography runs from 1986 through at least 2013 and reads as a cross-section of mainstream Israeli popular music: singer-songwriter Shlomo Gronich, pianist-composer Yoni Rechter, the duo of Achinoam Nini and Gil Dor, veteran vocalist Yafa Yarkoni, rock icon Arik Einstein, Gidi Gov, Yehudit Ravitz, Dani Sanderson, and others, plus session credits described in his own faculty bio with David Broza, Gali Atari, and Mika Karni. He currently also performs in a touring tribute act dedicated to Jimi Hendrix. He has no leader album of his own; his entire recorded catalog is built on sideman and session credits.

Itzcovich's drumming sits within the hard-bop and straight-ahead jazz tradition, comfortable across Latin-tinged small-group jazz (the Erev sessions), standards-based sextets, and the more genre-blurring context of the Hard Jazz Knights' jazz arrangements of pop material. Like many Israeli jazz-trained drummers working in a small market, his career is built less around a leader's discography than around a working musician's range: decades of high-profile session work backing the country's best-known pop and folk artists sit alongside a smaller but real body of jazz dates with figures like Kenny Werner and Joel Frahm. His most enduring and clearly jazz-identified role, by volume of documented years, is institutional rather than recorded: teaching drums within Rimon's jazz program since at least the mid-2000s.
