Jeremy Wall co-founded Spyro Gyra with saxophonist Jay Beckenstein in Buffalo, New York, in 1974, after the two moved there together as young musicians and began headlining local gigs. He served as the fledgling band's assistant producer and wrote songs for nearly all of its early albums. He left the touring lineup in 1978, just a year after the group's debut, handing the keyboard chair to a teenage Tom Schuman and becoming the first of what would become a long series of Spyro Gyra lineup changes over the following decades. The band's own story is told in full in Spyro Gyra's JazzProfiles.com profile.

After Buffalo, Wall attended the California Institute of the Arts, earning a B.F.A. in Music Composition, and later added an M.M. in Studio Composition from Purchase College in 2001. He built a long career as a producer, keyboardist, composer, and arranger across genres, releasing more than 70 of his own compositions, and continued writing for Spyro Gyra long after his own departure from the touring band. His composition "Shakedown" earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental. He also moved into academia, teaching as an adjunct professor at Ramapo College and Purchase College before becoming an assistant professor in the Music Industry department at SUNY Oneonta.

Wall's compositional voice, established during Spyro Gyra's founding years, remained part of the band's identity for decades after he stopped touring with them, an unusual case of a founding member's influence persisting almost entirely through songwriting rather than performance.
