Shuzin is the working name of Jonathan "Yoni" Levin, a Haifa-based singer, synthesist and producer who founded Ghostown, the label and studio arm of the Israeli art collective Broken Fingaz. He is not a jazz musician in any conventional sense, and this profile says so up front: his own records are post-rock, IDM, acid house, garage rock and reggae. He appears on JazzProfiles.com because of who he makes them with. He co-founded Geshem with two conservatory-trained jazz players, Yonatan Albalak and Aviv Cohen, and a decade of his credits sit inside the Raw Tapes circle in Tel Aviv, the label that also released Rejoicer, Nitai Hershkovits, Amir Bresler and Buttering Trio. No birth date, birth year, or formal musical education for him appears in any source consulted for this profile, and none is invented here.
Levin started Ghostown in Haifa in 2011, not as a record label but as an arts hub. In a 2024 interview with the Israeli culture site Modus he described the aim as connecting artists and underground cultural figures through parties, exhibitions and fairs; the record label grew out of that later, and the roster now runs to Left, 3421, Geshem, Trilion, SmellFish, Guy Offenbach, Anat Moshkovski, Dafna Shilon, Guma, Mangisto, Tomer Bar and reissues of Uzi Navon and Dina Katz. Ghostown remains tied to Broken Fingaz, the Haifa graffiti and poster-art crew founded in 2001 whose four members work as Unga, Tant, Deso and Kip. Discogs lists "Kip (4)" as one of Levin's aliases, and Kip is credited with the cover art on both Geshem's Sungazing and 3421's Bipolar; no source outside Discogs confirms that Kip and Shuzin are the same man, so this profile treats it as a Discogs assertion rather than a fact (see the notes file).
His longest-running project predates all of it. Since 2009 he has performed as Uzi Navon, the frontman of a deliberately fictional 1960s and 1970s Israeli funk band, Uzi Navon and Acquaintances, whose members perform in period costume under invented biographies. The debut LP came out on Anova Music (AN018) in 2009, followed by Bezmano (In Its Time) on Nuweiba Records in March 2020, Lakol HaHayim (For All Life) in October 2022 under the band name HaHavayot, and Lama Lo Achshav? (Why Not Now?) on Ghostown in April 2024. The project has its own Hebrew Wikipedia entry, which names Levin as the man behind the persona. Running parallel to it since the mid-2010s is 3421, his duo with the drummer Hezus, where he sings, plays synths and produces; their first album Bipolar was cut at Anova Studios with a brass section that included the jazz trumpeter Sefi Zisling, and the follow-up Just Numbers landed on Ghostown in January 2023.
Geshem came together in late 2015 as a trio of Albalak on guitar, bass, vocals and synths, Aviv Cohen (who records solo as Sol Monk) on drums and vocals, and Shuzin on vocals and synths. Its own Discogs entry calls it a supergroup of three of the busiest musicians in the Israeli scene and files its sound between post-rock, IDM and trip-hop. Sungazing, twelve tracks composed, performed, produced and recorded by the three of them in their home studios, came out May 30, 2018 on Ghostown Records (GR001) as a transparent purple LP, with additional recording at Kitcha Studios by Rafael Cohen and Slick Studios by Adir Dadia, mixing by Asaf Shay and the band, and mastering by Shay. Nomad Fire followed May 21, 2021, ten tracks with a string section (Yogev Glusman on violin, Keren Tannenbaum on viola and violin, Yael Shapira on cello) arranged by Albalak across four of them. Shuzin's credits on that record spread across vocals, keys, piano, acoustic guitar, tambourine and samples, and he sings lead on "Summarized" and "Miniature Buddha."
Alongside Geshem he has kept up a wide session and production practice. He is half of PlayDead with Yuval Havkin, better known as Rejoicer, and takes lead vocals, lyrics and instruments on their 2017 Raw Tapes album Color With Friends. He produced and mixed Tamar Aphek's Speed Trials single for Kill Rock Stars in 2021, mixed the Israeli Anatolian-rock band Şatellites' Aylar for Batov Records in 2025, and produced Guy Offenbach's 2023 Ghostown 7". He plays drums, not keyboards, on the British psychedelic producer Paul Osborne's Project Gemini records, including the 2022 Mr Bongo album The Children of Scorpio. Earlier credits include programming and synths on Lola Marsh's Remember Roses (Barclay, 2017), keyboards on one track of Ester Rada's Diving Shadows with Calo Wood (2016), and a remix of Buttering Trio's "Wait" for Raw Tapes in 2018.
Shuzin works as a texture and arrangement player rather than a soloist, which is why his name turns up in so many rooms without a signature instrument attached to it. In Geshem the division of labor is clean: Albalak carries the harmonic and string-arrangement side, Aviv Cohen supplies the beat programming and kit, and Shuzin handles synth washes, samples and the lead vocal on roughly half the material. What jazz influence exists in his work arrives through personnel and repertoire rather than through vocabulary. There is no evidence in his catalog of improvising over changes, and no source describes him as a jazz player. What the record does show is a producer comfortable putting jazz musicians in non-jazz settings and vice versa: brass from Sefi Zisling and Udi Raz on an acid-rock album, Rejoicer as a duo partner in an IDM project, string players from the Tel Aviv jazz circle on a post-rock record. His stated aesthetic is closer to a design brief than a musical one. Talking to Modus about Ghostown's output, he said it matters that the label's releases stay high-quality and uncompromising and carry a message of imagination and freedom.
Shuzin (Jonathan "Yoni" Levin) has no leader catalog under his own name. Everything below is either a band he co-founded or belongs to, or a guest, session or production credit. Discogs splits his work across five linked artist entities, and none of them alone shows the whole picture, so this file merges them: Shuzin (4118826), Kip (4) (963688), Uzi Navon (2199103), יונתן לוין (8241864) and החוויות (12657506), plus the group entities Geshem (7703948), 3421 (4720941), PlayDead (5800764), Trilion (5848837), SmellFish (6883266) and Simfonyx (7998772). This is the group-billing trap in its most extreme form seen in this sweep: his personal artist page lists twenty-nine entries and not one of them is a Geshem, 3421, PlayDead or Uzi Navon album as a main credit.
The Buy column is always "-" (no affiliate program set up yet). Several catalog numbers, recording dates and Spotify URLs could not be confirmed and are marked "Not confirmed" rather than guessed. His work is almost entirely outside jazz; the jazz-scene ties are in the personnel, which the Personnel column carries.
