Seulah Noh is a pianist, composer, arranger and conductor who was born in South Korea, trained there, and has lived in the United States since she moved to study jazz at about the age of 25; she is now based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She leads the Seulah Noh Jazz Orchestra, a 17-piece big band that adds a string quartet on three pieces, and its debut album, NOhMAD, was released on July 7, 2023. Her records are billed in two forms: the orchestra album carries the name Seulah Noh Jazz Orchestra on its cover and on Apple Music and Discogs, and her later releases are billed simply Seulah Noh. Her Hangul name, date of birth and city of birth are not published in any source found, although one review calls her a native of Seoul, and her citizenship is not stated. The Korean basis of this profile is therefore her birth and her training and early career in Korea; her jazz career has been made in the United States.

Her own account, in a November 2024 interview with CanvasRebel, begins in church. She played gospel, pop and jazz in church bands from about the age of ten, usually the youngest in a band of older professionals, improvising from chord symbols. A Christmas musical in middle school showed her what a music director does, and she says she wanted to lead her own band and work with talented musicians. She went to a music high school and earned a bachelor's degree in classical piano performance at a Korean university, which her own portfolio gives as Ewha Womans University. After her first year of college she became an assistant to a female music director, and in her senior year she made her debut as an assistant music director on the musical Aida. She worked about five years in the Korean musical-theater industry before deciding she needed deeper musical training. The Korean Cultural Center New York describes her as the music director of numerous musical productions in Korea, with collaborations alongside Broadway and West End artists.

She left that work and moved to the United States at 25 to start again in jazz. At Berklee College of Music she spent three years in jazz piano performance and jazz composition, supported by the CJ-Berklee Talent Scholarship, awarded by the CJ Cultural Foundation in 2015. Berklee lists two of her recitals from 2018: a senior recital, World without Words, on July 30, 2018 at Berk Recital Hall, mixing classical, jazz, Latin and contemporary writing, and a recital on November 27, 2018 at the Jackson Browne Stage in the Berklee dining hall, titled Arrogant or Elegant, which Berklee describes as her last at the school and which featured an 18-piece jazz orchestra. The title is also the name of the second track on her debut album. She then took a master's degree in jazz composition at the New England Conservatory, with the CJ Music Scholarship for Post-Graduates of 2019.

NOhMAD was recorded at Firehouse12 Studio in New Haven, Connecticut, on May 24 to 26, 2022, with additional recording at Yireh Music Studio in Seoul, The Record Co. in Boston and ReBorn Wood Studio in Tokyo. It was produced by Noh and Michael Gerace, mixed by John Davis at Bunker Studio in Brooklyn and mastered by Christian Schmitt, and the cover was designed by Young-eun Song. In her interview she says a month-long Kickstarter appeal for the album raised $15,000. The orchestra is made up of Nathan See, Harry Pershing, Hunter McKay, Ian Buss and Nick Biagini on reeds; Mark Tipton, Mike Brehm, Dan Hirsch and Alex Quinn on trumpets and flugelhorns; Joey Dies, Michael Gerace, Josh Gagnon and Gabe Ramos on trombones; and a rhythm section of Dabin Ryu on piano and Fender Rhodes, Kevin Scollins on guitar, Benjamin Young on bass and Willis Edmundson on drums. Hannah Chaewon Kim, Haekyung Ju, Julian Seney and Claire Deokyong Kim play strings on the three parts of the "Traveler's Suite." The guests are Song Yi Jeon on voice on "L'illusionniste" and its alternate take, Astghik Martirosyan on voice on "Hear the Light," Will Fredendall on flute and Kan Yanabe on percussion. Six of the nine tracks are her originals; the others are an alternate take of the opening piece and her arrangements of Fred Hersch's "Heartsong" and Pat Metheny's "Have You Heard."

The album drew reviews from several outlets. Jack Bowers of All About Jazz, on December 10, 2023, described her as a painter using the orchestra as a canvas for sophisticated and sometimes daring sound portraits, heard an East Asian flavor in several pieces, especially the "Traveler's Suite," which he read as an account of her move from Korea to the United States and her turn to jazz, and called her a talent to watch. Thierry De Clemensat of Paris-Move, on September 20, 2023, called it a deeply personal record that reflects the immigrant experience, likened the compositions to paintings forming a kind of jazz opera, and rated it essential. Jeff Becker of Jazz Sensibilities, on February 23, 2024, heard a mix of jazz with classical, fusion and rock elements and placed the album as her move from classical virtuoso to jazz composer. An unsigned review at Take Effect Reviews in June 2024 gave it 8 out of 10 and said that, despite her classical training, the listening experience is fully immersed in jazz.

Her releases since the album are of a different kind. ONE STEP AWAY, a four-track EP billed to Seulah Noh and released on September 25, 2024, is listed by Apple Music as jazz; her portfolio files it beside a 2023 photo exhibition in Korea by Kyungjun Lee with the same title. Apple Music also lists two soundtrack albums under her name, Van Gogh Inside: Love, Vincent (November 28, 2024, ten tracks) and Gustav Klimt: Timeless Beauty (December 19, 2024, nine tracks), both released under license to Sound Republica, Inc. Her portfolio lists those two shows and a 2023 Alphonse Mucha: The Golden Age show as immersive-art projects in Korea, and in her interview she says she was commissioned to write soundtracks for an immersive gallery exhibition, work that relied on sequencing software and MIDI, which she describes as outside her strongest skills.

In 2026 she is presented as a Korean artist abroad. On April 3, 2026 the Korean Cultural Center New York and the CJ Cultural Foundation presented the Seulah Noh Jazz Orchestra in The Sound In Between, part of the Young Korean Artists Series 2026, at the center's New York hall. The program drew mainly on NOhMAD, with pieces by Hersch, Dave Holland and Metheny beside her own, and the listed lineup again had Dabin Ryu at the piano. The same page says she has been a guest composer and conductor with the University of Michigan and Yakima Valley College, was recently commissioned by Michigan to write new works, and is developing a second album with the orchestra, which it calls newly formed and active in Michigan and Detroit. It also says her compositions have been recognized by the DownBeat Student Music Awards, the Earshot Jazz Festival and the International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers, and that she has worked with Kurt Elling, Rosanna Eckert, Cecile McLorin Salvant and Holland; no year, category or project is given for any of these.

Not much more is on record. There is no birth date, no Hangul name, no profile in a Korean-language outlet and no interview about her teachers; her output so far is one jazz orchestra album, one EP and soundtrack work for exhibitions.

Her writing is built for a large ensemble. Reviewers describe colorful, layered orchestration, rubato introductions that settle into groove, brass writing that is elegant rather than loud, and a rhythm section that drives the arrangements. The "Traveler's Suite" and the track "L'illusionniste," with its wordless voice, are the pieces reviews return to most. She has said her path from church band to classical conservatory to musical theater to jazz composition led her to combine all of those, and reviewers hear classical precision, fusion and rock in the writing without taking it out of jazz.

On whether she is primarily a jazz artist, the evidence favors jazz. Her one full-length album, her Berklee and New England Conservatory degrees in jazz and her public identity as a big-band leader all sit inside the jazz world, and Apple Music lists the album and the EP as jazz. The other work, the Korean musical theater of her early career and the immersive-art soundtracks, is classified as soundtrack music and is a smaller part of her catalog.
