Minjung Lee (이민정, also romanized Lee Min-jung) is a South Korean jazz vocalist and composer based in Paris. Since 2003 she has led the Minjung Lee Quartet, which has played regularly in the city's jazz clubs, and under that name she released her first album, Turquoise, in 2014 (Sergent Major Company; Plaza Mayor Company is credited on the digital release of December 2015). In 2019 she followed it with My Favorite Things, a duo album with the Seoul pianist Kaon Kim (김가온). She is not the actress of the same name.

Her date and place of birth are not published in any source, and neither is the year she moved to France. What ties her to Korea is documented elsewhere. The label's announcement of Turquoise calls her a South Korean jazz vocalist, and the Korea Times reviewed the album in October 2014 in a roundup of recent local jazz releases, describing the song "Morning Calm" as a portrait of her longing for her homeland. The Korean music service Bugs lists her as a Korean jazz artist, and when the Jarasum International Jazz Festival announced its first lineup for 2017, the Korean press named her quartet among the artists active abroad whom the festival was introducing to Korean audiences. Her training and working life, as far as the sources show, have been in France.

She studied jazz at the I.A.C.P. and the CIM in Paris, took a master's degree in jazz at the conservatoire in Bourg-la-Reine, and a master's degree in voice at the conservatoire in Cachan; a further conservatoire in Villepinte is also named in her biography. The classical vocal technique she learned in France is part of how she sings jazz, and her biography says she performs in Korean, English, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.

The quartet's lineup, as printed on Turquoise, is Andrea Campagnolo on guitar, Kentaro Suzuki on double bass and Wesley Barbé on drums. According to her biography, Campagnolo is from Italy and studied at the CIM, Suzuki was born in Tokyo and studied jazz, classical and baroque double bass in Paris, and Barbé comes from New Caledonia and settled in Paris in 2004. In June 2006 the quartet took part in "Corée au Coeur" (Korea in Heart), a concert in the Jardin des Tuileries marking 120 years of diplomatic relations between France and Korea. In 2007 it was invited to play at the Korean Cultural Centre in Paris for the Fête de la Musique and at Entrepont in Issy-les-Moulineaux, and it has played Paris venues including Café Universel and OPA. The launch concert for Turquoise was held at Sunside in Paris in May 2014.

Turquoise gathers compositions she had been writing since about 2005. It has eight tracks, among them two Korean traditional songs arranged as jazz, and its title piece was inspired by traditional rhythms she heard on a trip to Turkey and was composed at the Marciac festival in France. The Korea Times described the record as drawing on sounds from Korea, Turkey and the South Pacific and as telling personal stories, among them her love story with her husband.

My Favorite Things (2019) is a different kind of record: seven tracks, 38 minutes, mostly classical repertoire that she loves, recast with new harmonies and jazz improvisation. It opens with the show tune that gives the album its name and closes with a reprise she composed. The material comes from several countries, including Spanish, French, Korean and German art songs and an Italian operatic aria. A concert for the album was listed at Sunset-Sunside in Paris on September 7, 2019. Her most recent release is that duo album.

Her singing combines a classically trained voice, described as clear from low to high register, with a jazz quartet setting. The quartet's repertoire mixes her own songs with jazz readings of Korean traditional material, French chanson and standards, and her biography stresses her work in many languages. The announcement for Turquoise mentions Korean traditional music, oriental melodies and the tropical landscape of the South Pacific. Titles on the album point the same way: "Milyang Arirang" takes its name from a Korean folk song, "Chanson de péniche" is French, and "Morning Calm" is her own song about longing for her homeland.

The duo album with Kaon Kim moves toward the meeting ground between classical song and jazz. A French-language note quoted with the concert listing describes music that is at once jazz, classical, chanson and traditional song, a wandering between France and Korea with stops in Spain, America, Germany and Italy.
