Mirko Fait was born in Milan on June 3, 1965, the son of Camillo Fait, a Milanese designer, sculptor and painter. He took up the saxophone as a teenager and, by his own account, built his playing around tenor, alto and soprano horns. He first drew wider notice in 2002, accompanying Cuban musician Gendrickson Mena Diaz at a Pitti Uomo fashion event in Florence, and in 2007 he founded his own group, the Fait Club Quintet.

Fait's earliest Discogs-documented recording as a leader is In A Whisper (Ambient Jazz) (Italian Way Music / Giano Record, 2010), a duo record with pianist Gino Fioravanti built around their original "My Whisper For You," which Discogs catalogs under genre Jazz and style Easy Listening. The same year he composed for the Mantic Ensemble's Deep Lights (Italian Way Music, 2010), and "My Whisper For You" was also placed on the label's various-artists Piano Solo Collection (2010). In November 2009 his group Fait Club contributed two tracks, "Never Alone Melita" and "Nothing Else," to the various-artists compilation United Jazz Artists Of Milan (Real Jazz / Italian Way Music) - Discogs release-level credits list him on tenor saxophone on both, plus a guest tenor saxophone turn on labelmates Leonardo Di Virgilio and Pietro Sala's track "2012," and he served as the compilation's art director.

That same month, November 2009, Fait was named artistic director of United Jazz Artists of Milan, and he also serves as artistic director of the jazz section at Italian Way Music, a Milan-based production-music company. From 2013 to 2018 he directed jazz programming at Cantina Scoffone, a Milan jazz venue, later managing music programming at other rooms in the city, and from 2016 to 2018 he hosted his own radio and television jazz program, Jazz Wave. He has performed at Blue Note Milano, the AH-UM Milano Jazz Festival, JazzMi, the Zagreb Jazz Festival, the Doctor Jazz Salentum Festival and the Sant'Elpidio Jazz Festival, among other venues in Italy, France, Switzerland and beyond, and continues to perform live; a Milan club date is listed for October 2025.

His own biography and press coverage describe a larger catalog than Discogs currently documents, including Just for You (2009, with singer and producer John Toso - its track "Sex For Money" was selected for the French label Believe's 2010 various-artists compilation 70 Relaxing Holiday Masterpieces, per All About Jazz) and Confidences (2016), released under the billing Mirko Fait 5et, produced with the Sant'Elpidio Jazz Festival and Jazz di Marca, and reviewed by Jack Bowers for All About Jazz on February 3, 2017. Neither album is currently listed under his Discogs artist page. His own biography and press coverage also name trumpeter Flavio Boltro, singer Elisabetta Guido, bassist Marco Panascia, pianist Joel Holmes, guitarist Phil Maturano and pianist Antonio Zambrini (a jazz instructor at the Milan Conservatory) among his collaborators; none of these connections could be independently confirmed at the Discogs credit level in this profile's own research, and they are noted here for completeness rather than asserted as verified. He also appeared on screen as a saxophonist in Checco Zalone's film Cado Dalle Nuvole and contributed music to a short film by director Alessandro Daquino.

Fait names trumpeter Chet Baker as his primary inspiration, alongside saxophonists John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Art Pepper and Charlie Parker. His own recorded output sits toward the smooth and ambient end of the jazz spectrum: Discogs tags his most heavily documented leader session, In A Whisper, Jazz/Easy Listening, and his 2016 quintet album Confidences is described by its distributor as Cool Jazz, Ambient and Smooth Jazz, with its single "B Mine" billed in press as Latin Jazz. That bossa nova and Latin-jazz thread runs through track titles on the same album ("Nada Mais," "Aquarela").
