Daniel Schwarzwald is a Jerusalem-based pianist, composer, singer-songwriter, arranger, and orchestrator who started on classical piano before moving into jazz, chamber music, and composition at the Jerusalem Academy of Music, studying with Omri Mor, Itai Rosenbaum, Slava Ganelin, and Shoshana Cohen.

His most distinctive project sits outside the standard piano-trio format. BiWald pairs him with Polish cellist Julia Biłat in an original-composition piano-cello duo drawing on world music, jazz, and classical writing. They recorded their debut album, First Meeting, in February 2015, released January 2, 2017, and have performed in European rooms including Berlin's Zig Zag Jazz Club.

He's also a regular collaborator with bassist Ehud Ettun, already profiled on jazzprofiles.com, appearing on Ettun's albums Raw Gestures (2013) and Deep in the Mountains (2019), the latter born from a residency tied to the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. He leads his own working quartet as well; Haunted Melodies, described in press materials as his fourth quartet album, with flutist Joe Melnicove, drummer Amir Bar Akiva, and bassist Gonn Shani, is set for release in 2025 or 2026.

Schwarzwald's work spans a chamber-jazz sensibility (BiWald's piano-cello format), straight-ahead post-bop as a sideman for Ehud Ettun, and his own quartet writing, drawing on a classical foundation carried into jazz and world-music composition.
