Omri Mor started piano at seven and began formal lessons at eleven. His training split three ways from early on: classical music under Benjamin Oren, jazz under saxophonist Arnie Lawrence, who had him gigging at a weekly coffee shop residency within a year of meeting him, and Arabo-Andalusian and Algerian Chaabi music under Moroccan musician Nino Bitton, with whom he spent extended, near daily sessions.

That third strand became the throughline of his career. Mor became the pianist in bassist Avishai Cohen's touring trio, a seat he had already held by September 2011, when he was photographed performing with the trio in Nice, France, for a French TV taping. He did not release his own debut as a leader until years later. "It's About Time!" (Naive) was recorded across sessions in Paris and Tel Aviv between 2013 and 2016 and released on 30 March 2018, with a personnel list that reflects his three-way training directly: Avishai Cohen on acoustic bass, drummer Karim Ziad, and Moroccan Gnawa vocalist Maâlem Abdelkebir Merchane, alongside a piano-trio reading of the American standard "You and the Night and the Music."

Mor has continued to divide his performing life across traditions, playing regularly with Karim Ziad's band, the Algerian Chaabi Orchestra El Gusto, classical symphonic orchestras, and the Arabo-Andalusian Orchestra. His collaborators include Moroccan pianist Maurice El Medioni, Gnawa master Hamid El Kasri, and Israeli rock musicians Berry Sakharof and Rami Kleinstein.

In 2022 he formed a trio with South African-born bassist Yosef Gutman Levitt and drummer Ofri Nehemya for "Upside Down Mountain," a record built around biblical narrative. The following year, Mor and Levitt released "Melodies of Light" (Soul Song Records, 2023), a 13-movement duo suite, expanded on record with cellist Yoed Nir and percussionist Joca Perpignan, that sets Mor's Iraqi and Argentinian family heritage against Levitt's South African one. One movement, "For Karim," is a direct tribute to his longtime collaborator Karim Ziad.

His sideman work stretches back to 2005's The Omer Avital Marlon Browden Project, when he was nineteen, and includes two records with saxophonist Daniel Zamir ("Amen," 2006, and "Forth And Back," 2015) and two credits inside John Zorn's orbit on Tzadik: as the solo pianist on the fourteen miniatures making up "City of Slaughter" on Zorn's "Filmworks XXV" (2013), and on "Aguares," volume 23 of Zorn's Book of Angels series (2014).

Mor's playing sits at the intersection of three trained traditions rather than one. His classical grounding under Benjamin Oren gives his touch its precision; his jazz education under Arnie Lawrence gave him an early, real bandstand (a weekly coffee shop gig within a year of meeting his teacher); and his years studying Arabo-Andalusian and Algerian Chaabi music under Nino Bitton shaped the modal, ornamented lines that separate his own records from straight-ahead jazz piano. His work as Avishai Cohen's trio pianist put him inside one of Israeli jazz's most recognized touring bands for over a decade before he stepped forward as a leader, and his own records lean fully into the North African and Andalusian material his jazz peers rarely touch, rather than treating it as an occasional detour.
