Chaehee Lim (임채희) is a South Korean jazz vocalist who made her debut on the Korean jazz scene in 2021 and has released one album under her own name, the standards record Easy Living (MDNT, 2023). Her album and Discogs spell her name Chaehee Lim; Korean listings and a few programs write it Lim Chaehee or 임채희 (Lim Chae-hee in revised romanization). No source gives her birth date, birthplace or age, and no source says where she grew up, so the Born field above says only what is known.
The Korean newspaper Sports Kyunghyang, in a November 2024 concert notice, says she finished a master's degree in Jazz Studies at the City University of New York (CUNY) and debuted in Korea in 2021. A listing of her credits kept by an event-music agency is more specific: Queens College, one of the CUNY campuses, with the degree dated 2021. Her teachers, her earlier training and her years in New York are not described in any of these sources. The same notice calls her tone clear, transparent and warm, and praises her diction and the way she delivers a lyric.
Her performance history in Korea begins to show up in 2022. The agency listing records a solo concert titled Only Trust Your Heart at the Bitgoeul Art Space in Gwangju that year and a Jeju International Wind Festival (제주국제관악제) appearance with the ensemble PNS. For 2023 it lists the Jazz Wave series of the Tongyeong Cultural Foundation, a summer concert in Chuncheon and the Devil's Door Jazz Festa; for 2024 it adds a Wednesday jazz concert for the Gwacheon Cultural Foundation, a concert in the village of Eungok, and a summer tour with her trio through Busan, Gimhae and Sejong. Sports Kyunghyang names the Tongyeong and Gwacheon foundations and the Devil's Door festival as well.
Easy Living came out digitally on May 25, 2023, on the MDNT label (Korean streaming services list Danal Entertainment, with Aurora, as distributor). It has ten standards, mostly medium-tempo swing numbers according to the album text, and its title tracks are "Indian Summer" and "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most." The band is her working quintet: Joon Smith (준 스미스) on guitar, Yan Kim on piano, Jinkyo Park (박진교) on bass and Saerob Moon (문새롬) on drums. Park and Kim made all the arrangements, and Park and Lim co-produced it. The album text states the aim plainly: jazz that suits ordinary days, not only a romantic night with a glass of wine. A limited vinyl edition of 500 copies, pressed in France on natural transparent vinyl, was first offered at the 12th Seoul Record Fair, and the Korean retailer Dream Records lists it with a release date of December 19, 2023. The same retailer notes that MDNT had earlier produced the vocalist Heo So-young's third album, B.B.B., whose record fair first edition sold out
On October 17, 2024 the channel 스프TV published a nine-song set recorded at the Devil's Door Jazz Festa 2024, where she sang with the pianist Dan Nimmer, the bassist Bruce Kang (브루스강) and the drummer Saerob Moon. On December 1, 2024 she took the first half of "Vocalist Double Bill: Lim Chae-hee and Moon Mi-hyang" at Seongsu Art Hall in Seoul, presented by Jazz Bridge Company: her quintet played first, Moon Mi-hyang's quintet second, and the two singers shared a duet finale, with "Winter Wonderland" as an encore according to one audience review. In January 2025 she was the guest vocalist on "'Tis Autumn" on the guitarist Kyungju Tak's album You Are Too Beautiful, which the magazine Jazz People reviewed in March 2025. On September 20, 2025 her trio played the Seoul Forest Jazz Festival, whose announcement listed her among the notable new names on the bill.
Not documented: a second album, any interview in which she talks about her influences or her years in New York, and a birth year.
Everything published about her sound describes a standards singer. Sports Kyunghyang praises her pure, warm tone, her precise diction and the way she carries a lyric through jazz standards, and Jazz Bridge Company describes her and Moon Mi-hyang as vocalists who work mainly in traditional jazz, meaning standards. The Easy Living album text describes mostly medium-tempo swing numbers and a deliberately relaxed, everyday mood. In the March 2025 Jazz People review of Kyungju Tak's album, the critic Jo Won-yong wrote that she has a deep understanding of swing and standards, as shown by Easy Living and her concert program Ballad & Swing, and that her presence on "'Tis Autumn" made the track feel like a shared leader record.
No source names her influences, so none are listed here. On record she sings with a guitar, piano, bass and drums quartet, and in concert she has appeared with a quintet, a trio and a guest-pianist band; her 2025 festival set was billed as the Chaehee Lim Trio.
