Fausto Beccalossi was born in 1967 in Castenedolo, in the province of Brescia, and trained on the chromatic accordion in the classical style at the Brescia State Conservatory before turning to jazz improvisation in the early 1990s through a series of workshops. The turning point came at the SienaJazz seminar in 1994, where trumpeter Enrico Rava noticed him and picked him for a workshop with the course's strongest students. His professional career began in 1997 with a set of Italian groups: the Gramelot ensemble of guitarist Simone Guiducci, the Guido Bombardieri Quartet, the tango group Nuevo Tango and the Otello Savoia Quartet. The early records bear this out at the credit level: Luise (1999, Caligola) with Savoia, Cantador (2000, New Tone/Felmay) with Gramelot, and Viaggi (2000) with Bombardieri.

Through the 2000s he worked across Italian jazz, tango and Balkan music at the same time. In 2002 he recorded Nehuen with the Argentine guitarist Lito Epumer's quartet, a Buenos Aires session Discogs files under Fusion and Latin Jazz; Dancin' Roots (2004, Felmay) put him in Gramelot with clarinetist Don Byron; and Musica (2005, Abeat) placed his accordion on pianist Antonio Zambrini's avant-garde and contemporary jazz session. A second thread ran east: he became a listed member of Tamara Obrovac's Transhistria Ensemble (credits from Daleko Je in 2005 to Canto Amoroso in 2016), played on WDR Big Band Cologne's Balkan Jazz (2010, Bigband Records), which the band revisited in 2020 as a program of saxophonist Nicolas Simion's music arranged by Bill Dobbins, and co-billed with the Simion Trio and pianist Florian Weber on Magic Drops (2011). He also appears on two Enja releases by bandleader Csaba Toth Bagi's Balkan Union, Aved Ivenda (2011) and Balkan Union (2017).

His best-known international engagement is with guitarist Al Di Meola. Promoter biographies date the association from 2007 and put it at more than ten years; the Discogs record shows it on La Melodia (Live In Milano) (2008, World Sinfonia, accordion and voice), Pursuit of Radical Rhapsody (2011, Telarc) and Across the Universe (2020), and Di Meola's 2012 European tour billing lists Beccalossi on accordion alongside drummer Peter Kaszas.

As a leader he released his first solo accordion album, My Time, in 2013: eleven tracks, ten of them his own, recorded over two days in April at Artesuono in Udine by Stefano Amerio. It was followed by a run of chamber-scale records that trade on his repertoire range. Il Bolero Come Terapia (2016, Abeat) sets the singer David Riondino's Italian adaptations of eighteen boleros against an Open World Jazz Quartet with guitarist Claudio Farinone, bassist Carlos Buschini and drummer Francesco D'Auria. Tres Mundos (2017, Abeat) is a trio with the Brazilian guitarist Roberto Taufic and Buschini, and Akté (2017, Visage Music) is a quartet with Farinone, saxophonist Max Pizio and oud player Elias Nardi built on Balkan, Armenian and Catalan themes. Giocolieri (2019, Abeat) is the trio Azul with pianist Oscar Del Barba and bassist Attilio Zanchi, a Discogs-verified credit that runs from "Tea For Two" to Villa-Lobos's "Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5."

Since 2023 his output has broadened further. He is a guest on pianist Michele Fazio's Infinity (2023, Abeat For Jazz), recorded a Ennio Morricone film-music duo with Farinone, Playing Love (2024, Egea/Quadrivium, liner notes by Morricone's biographer Alessandro De Rosa), and is co-billed with composer Fabrizio Consoli on a Pier Paolo Pasolini songbook, Il Coraggio (2025, vinyl). He recorded Respiro (2025, Belfagor Label) with singer-guitarist Joe Pisto, Fausto e Serse (2026, Blue Serge) with pianist Sergio Cossu, and ¡Gracia! (2026, Artesuono) with guitarist Luca Falomi and violinist Anaïs Drago, a chamber-jazz set inspired by Federico Garcia Lorca and released on 28 May 2026.

Several earlier collaborations are documented in his own biographies rather than in itemized credits: the Gianluigi Trovesi nonet from 1999, work with Gabriele Mirabassi, Enzo Pietropaoli, Paolo Fresu, Maria Pia De Vito, Kenny Wheeler, Charlie Haden and Peter Erskine, and a place in Rava's opera-themed project L'Opera va. A duo with guitarist Sandro Gibellini has played Italian jazz clubs, including a 2022 concert in his home town of Castenedolo.

Beccalossi's jazz credentials are real but not exclusive. He learned jazz improvisation after a classical conservatory training, his early breakthrough came at a jazz school, and his catalog sits mostly on jazz labels (Abeat, CAM Jazz, Enja, Egea, Artesuono), with Discogs tagging 50 of his 62 release-level credits as Jazz and Contemporary Jazz the most frequent style. But his repertoire is deliberately cross-cultural: Argentine tango and bolero, Brazilian choro and samba, Balkan and Mediterranean folk, French chanson (his earliest co-billed album, from 2001, is a set of French standards) and, more recently, film and song material by Morricone and Pasolini. Press descriptions of his playing stress lyricism and a narrative, singing tone, with an accordion he uses, in the words of one concert preview of My Time, as a second voice.

That breadth is why his catalog also includes pop and folk sessions, among them Massimo Ranieri's Neapolitan-song album Accussi Grande (2005), Jovanotti's Oh, Vita! (2017) and singer Franca Masu's albums between 2006 and 2021. This profile treats him as a jazz accordionist with a wide-ranging world-music practice, rather than as a folk or tango specialist who occasionally plays jazz.
