Yaron Ouzana is an Israeli jazz and session trombonist, born December 1975 in Jerusalem (per his own Discogs artist profile; no more precise birth date was independently found). Discogs' own summary of his career, "performed and recorded trombone with Israel's top musicians for more than 20 years," undersells how wide that net has been cast: two decades split between one of the country's defining jazz big bands, a scattering of serious modern-jazz sideman dates, and a long parallel life as a first-call horn player for Israeli funk, klezmer-rock, and pop acts.

The steadiest thread in that career is his chair in trombonist-bandleader Avi Lebovich's Orchestra, also known internationally as the Israel Jazz Orchestra. Ouzana is confirmed via the Discogs API as a member of the trombone section, alongside Lebovich and Yair Slutzki, on the band's 2008 debut Groove Collage (Hed-Arzi) and its 2013 follow-up Volcano, and again on 2015's בחברה טובה (Bechevra Tova), the Orchestra's collaboration with singer-composer Shem-Tov Levi. The band's own promotional listing for a November 2018 date at the Tel Aviv Jazz Festival's Recanati Auditorium still had him in the same trombone section alongside Lebovich and Slutzki, a decade after the band's founding. A 2012 Haaretz feature on the growth of Israel's jazz scene singled him out by name as one of a small handful of accomplished Israeli jazz trombonists, in the same sentence as Reut Regev and Jonathan Wolchuk.

Beyond the Orchestra, Ouzana's Discogs-confirmed trombone credits include two records with more overtly serious jazz and new-music pedigree: pianist and composer Yitzhak Yedid's Passions and Prayers: Sextet in Hommage to Jerusalem (2006, Between The Lines, a suite for horn, clarinet, trombone, viola, double bass, and piano), and Aguares (2014, Tzadik), Cuban-American percussionist Roberto Rodriguez's entry in John Zorn's long-running Book of Angels series, credited there as Volume 23. Both are Discogs API-verified trombone credits under his own name, not assumed from a group listing.

The rest of his discography reads as the working life of a first-call Tel Aviv horn player rather than a jazz specialist's. He is a longtime member of the Tel Aviv funk band the Apples, has recorded and performed with the Balkan-brass ensemble Marsh Dondurma and the klezmer-rock/burlesque group the Jewish Monkeys (trombone and baritone horn on their album Mania Regressia), and turns up as a studio horn player across more than a decade of Israeli pop and rock records, among them Alon Oleartchik's רוֹק&רוֹךְ (2007), Tamar Eisenman's Gymnasium (2009), and Hadag Nahash's זמן להתעורר (2013). He also plays in a separate wind ensemble billed as Lior Ron's brass band (תזמורת הנשיפה של ליאור רון). More recently he has appeared as a trombonist with the vocal-and-brass group Tzaneret at the Jerusalem Jazz Festival's Israel Museum series (July 2022), guested on two tracks by British nu-jazz/broken-beat artist Sefi Zisling (Expanse, 2019, and a track on The Librarian, 2024, both on Tru Thoughts), and in 2023 stepped out as a leader for the first time on record, fronting the instrumental-soul septet Ouzana and the Flavors for the 7-inch single "You Better Believe It" (Wax Thématique), cut with saxophonist Elad Gellert, his bandmate from the Tzaneret lineup.

Ouzana's playing sits inside the same big-band arranger's tradition as Avi Lebovich's Orchestra, built for a horn section that gets fed funk backbeats and Middle Eastern and Balkan rhythmic material as readily as straight-ahead swing. That same range shows up across the rest of his catalog: Balkan brass with Marsh Dondurma, klezmer-rock horns with the Jewish Monkeys, deep-pocket funk with the Apples and, on his own 2023 single, and a credited turn in a more austere new-music/avant-garde jazz context on Yitzhak Yedid's chamber sextet writing and John Zorn's Book of Angels.
