Uzi Ramirez was born Uzi Feinerman. The stage name comes from a teenage band called The Brothers Ramirez, and it stuck so completely that his own Discogs artist listing files "Uzi Feinerman" as the alias rather than the other way around.

He got to jazz and blues by an unusual route for a Tel Aviv musician. Part of his childhood was spent in Ames, Iowa, where he first heard Dolly Parton, BB King, and Bob Dylan. He picked up his first guitar around age 9, and an early teacher introduced him to the blues. Back in Israel, he trained at the Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts in Givatayim and completed his military service in the Israel Air Force band.

In 2003 he co-founded Boom Pam, a Tel Aviv band built on Balkan brass, Mediterranean rhythm, and surf-rock guitar. He stepped back from the band around 2009 to build a solo career, though Discogs still credits him on the band's 2023 release Royal, so the relationship continued in some form well past his reported departure.

His solo catalog runs six releases since 2010: Lick My Heart (2010, Mountain Music Records), named album of the year by Kol HaKampus student radio; Cheese in My Pocket (2014); the Ice Skates EP (2016); Neon Dust (2022); Axe & Spade (2023); and Family Man (2024). The material draws on the blues and Americana he grew up on in Iowa, played through a Tel Aviv rock band's instincts. He also records as The Ramirez Brothers, a separate act from Boom Pam active on and off since 2009, most recently mixing their 2022 LP Sci-Fi.

In 2019, trumpeter Avishai Cohen brought Ramirez into Big Vicious, an electro-acoustic band built around two drummers, live sampling, and two guitarists (Ramirez and Yonatan Albalak). The band's self-titled debut was recorded that August at Studios La Buissonne in the south of France and released March 27, 2020 on ECM, Cohen's fourth release on the label. Ramirez has continued performing with the group since, including a 2022 tour date at Cosmopolite in Oslo.

He has also worked as a session guitarist for other Israeli artists, including Sefi Zisling and Amir Bresler, and co-wrote "Shine Again" with electronic musician Kutiman (Ophir Kutiel) for Kutiman's 2016 album 6am.

Ramirez's playing sits at the intersection of blues, Americana, funk, and jazz fusion, without settling permanently into any one of them. His earliest influences (Dolly Parton, BB King, Bob Dylan) came from an unlikely source for an Israeli musician: a childhood stretch in Ames, Iowa. That blues/Americana foundation carries through his solo albums, while his work with Boom Pam draws on Balkan, Mediterranean, and surf-rock idioms, and his role in Avishai Cohen's Big Vicious puts him inside a considerably more electronic, effects-driven, ECM-style fusion context. He has described his own approach simply: "I just played and listened a lot. I just wanted to make music, without limitations."
