Micha Gilad is an Israeli jazz pianist, keyboardist, and composer, born and raised in Tel Aviv and now based in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from the Thelma Yellin High School for the Arts and served in the Israel Defense Forces as what his own artist biography calls "an excelling musician," the army's outstanding-musician track that lets conscripted players keep performing and competing during their service. During those years he took first prize in the Israeli Conservatory's own jazz performance competition, won the Conservatory's "Ran Baron" award for 2009-2010, and, as a member of the Shtriker Quintet, won the Best Band Prize at the Bucharest International Jazz Competition in Romania. He went on to the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York as part of its joint program with the Israeli Conservatory, completing his bachelor's degree in December 2016 while studying jazz piano with Sam Yahel and Matt Mitchell and composition with Jon Cowherd, alongside separate classical piano and composition study. The America-Israel Cultural Foundation (AICF) backed him through that period with its jazz-performance scholarship for 2012-2014 (his own All About Jazz bio states 2012-2014; AICF's own artist page for him states 2012-13, a minor date discrepancy between his two primary bio sources, noted in notes.md).

Gilad leads his own jazz piano trio, with drummer Ben Silashi and bassist Gal Shaya, and released its debut album, A Farewell to Brahms, on July 1, 2016: six original compositions recorded as a working trio, tagged on release as "alternative jazz trio piano jazz trio." Before and around his move to New York, he played the Red Sea Jazz Festival, Indie-Negev, and Southern Wind festivals in Israel and venues including Barbie, Levontin 7, Yellow Submarine, the Mitzpe Ramon Jazz Club, Beit Haamudim, and Shablul Jazz, and performed internationally at Romania's Europafest, Russia's Rostov Jazz Festival, the Sierra Nevada Music Festival, and Canada's Skafest. In the years before relocating, he also worked as a sideman well outside jazz, backing some of the biggest names in Israeli pop and roots music, among them singer-songwriter Noga Erez, singer-songwriter Yoni Bloch, the reggae/dub band Zvuloon Dub System, and Tamir Grinberg.

In New York, Gilad became part of a tight, mutually reinforcing circle of Israeli New School graduates working in contemporary jazz. He is the keyboardist, on piano, Fender Rhodes, and synthesizer, in guitarist Idan Morim's quintet on Morim's 2019 debut album I.M. (Outside In Music), alongside trumpeter Adam O'Farrill, bassist Almog Sharvit, and drummer Colin Stranahan. Reviewing the album, Textura singled out Gilad's playing on the three-part centerpiece "Movement," describing "an elegant piano intro by an unaccompanied Gilad" that later opens into "extended solos" pushing the performance "into freer territory," while Audio-Audiophile's review highlighted his interaction with Morim on "Wildfire" ("stellar communication among the bandmembers") and his "post-bop display with hints of light fusion via Gilad's electric keyboards" on the extended piece "As If (It Was All a Dream)." All About Jazz called the album itself "a truly brilliant debut." Two years later, Gilad played piano, keyboards, and synths on bassist Almog Sharvit's own debut leader album, Get Up Or Cry (2021, Unit Records), again alongside Adam O'Farrill, with guitarist/banjoist Brandon Seabrook and drummer Lukas König rounding out the band. He is also a credited guest keyboardist, alongside O'Farrill on trumpet and Matt Bumgardner on trombone, on the self-titled 2017 debut album by KADAWA, the instrumental trio of bassist Almog Sharvit, guitarist Tal Yahalom, and drummer Ben Silashi (his own trio's drummer), an album The New York Times praised as having "joy and force in equal measure, full of hummable melodies."

Alongside that jazz work, Gilad keeps up a parallel career in electronic and alternative pop. He is the initiator and leader of the electronic-beat project Doctor B, self-released a Discogs-tagged appearance on The Fall of Doctor B (2016), and plays keyboards and synths in the bands O Mer and Moonar. Under his own name he has self-released a run of Bandcamp singles and one EP since 2020: the EP CAT TV (2020), whose seven brief tracks include a synthesizer arrangement of Duke Ellington's "In a Sentimental Mood" (retitled "In a Synthimental Mood"), a Bach arrangement, and "Sophianic Mess," composed by his KADAWA/Get Up Or Cry bandmate Tal Yahalom; the singles "Autumn Song" (2020), "Yellow Box" and "How Strange" (2022), and "Solitary Summer Night" and "Say You Love Me So" (2023); and a 2021 cover of Sufjan Stevens' "Death With Dignity," arranged for synthesizer with vocalist Ambrose Getz, its vocal arrangement co-credited to Almog Sharvit.

Gilad's own description of his playing, on his All About Jazz artist page, is a "unique voice, deriving from the Jazz vocabulary and heritage, but always exploring to find new colors," built on "a complex coordination of left and right hand counterpoints, making the piano sound like a full size orchestra." That description matches how independent reviewers have heard him inside Idan Morim's quintet: Textura's review of I.M. (2019) describes his unaccompanied piano introductions and solos that push the group "into freer territory," while Audio-Audiophile's review of the same album locates him squarely in a "post-bop" idiom "with hints of light fusion via Gilad's electric keyboards." His training reinforces that dual identity: jazz piano study under Hammond organist and pianist Sam Yahel and pianist Matt Mitchell at the New School, set against a parallel classical-composition track and, on his own solo releases, arrangements of Duke Ellington and Bach alongside original electronic-pop songwriting. His two most visible sideman credits, Idan Morim's I.M. and Almog Sharvit's Get Up Or Cry, both mix through-composed post-bop writing with electronic and alternative-rock textures (Sharvit's album, per its own press coverage, blends "electronic music, psychedelic rock, bluegrass, 20th-century classical music, and jazz"), the same crossover territory his own leader catalogue, from a straight-ahead piano trio to synth-pop singles, works from the other direction.
