GTO Trio takes its name from the initials of its three members: pianist Gadi Lehavi, already profiled individually on jazzprofiles.com, bassist Tal Mashiach, and drummer Ofri Nehemya. Nehemya co-founded the group with Lehavi and Mashiach in 2018, out of a friendship that runs longer still.
The trio has spent years as an in-demand backing unit, accompanying Chick Corea, Ravi Coltrane, and Ethio-jazz pioneer Mulatu Astatke, along with major names in Israeli jazz, and playing rooms including Birdland and the Village Vanguard in New York. Under their own name, they have toured internationally, including a return performance in Japan covered by the Jerusalem Post.
Their debut under the GTO Trio name for Anzic Records, Within, arrived in 2025, more than a decade into the friendship behind the group.
GTO Trio works within a contemporary post-bop piano-trio tradition, its sound shaped by years of collective touring and backing work for major jazz figures before recording extensively under its own name.
