Eviatar Banai is not a jazz musician. He's one of Israel's best-known art rock and chamber pop songwriters, the youngest member of the Banai family, a multi-generational dynasty of Israeli actors and musicians, and brother to actress Orna Banai and singer-songwriter Meir Banai. He studied piano for eight years and cinema in high school, and during his military service wrote, directed, and scored a comedy film, Six, for Israeli Channel 1. After his service he lived on a kibbutz in the Golan Heights before moving to Tel Aviv to write songs.

His own catalog runs through art rock, chamber pop, baroque pop, progressive rock, and electronica, spanning a large Hebrew-language discography on Hed Arzi Music (1990s-2010s) and more recently Nana Disc. His most recent album, Anchor in the Water (עוגן במים), was made in the aftermath of October 7, 2023, and was covered by the Times of Israel as an album of grief and sorrow.

He's profiled in this system for a narrower, real reason: saxophonist Daniel Zamir, already covered on jazzprofiles.com, played on three songs on one of his albums, and in 2025 Banai performed at the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat alongside jazz pianist Omri Mor, playing a program of love songs for piano and strings.

Banai's own musical identity sits outside jazz entirely, built on art rock, chamber pop, and baroque pop songwriting traditions. His relevance here is collaborative rather than stylistic: real, working jazz musicians (Daniel Zamir, Omri Mor) have chosen to record and perform with him, which says more about his standing across genre lines in Israeli music than about his own sound.

Scope note: Banai is a non-jazz artist (art rock/chamber pop) included in this project for a documented jazz-scene connection, not as a jazz discography subject. His Discogs catalog (artist ID 1186765) runs 30+ entries, mostly Hebrew-titled Hed Arzi Music and Nana Disc singles from the 1990s onward; this file covers his identifiable studio albums only, not the full singles catalog.
