Omri Abramov was born in Jerusalem in 1989 and came to the saxophone late by the standards of the Israeli conservatory system, starting on recorder and piano, moving to flute, and only picking up the horn at thirteen. He set foot in the professional jazz world five years later, at eighteen, playing the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat with the leading ensemble of the festival's Berklee workshops. He went on to graduate from the Israeli Conservatory of Music in Tel Aviv in jazz performance, held an America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship with excellence for the years 2007 through 2011, and was granted "Outstanding Musician" status by the Israel Defense Forces, the designation that allowed him to keep working as a musician through his conscription.

That status put him inside one of the biggest touring operations in Israeli music. Abramov joined the Idan Raichel Project in 2009 and stayed until 2014, playing more than 300 shows in arenas and concert halls and learning horn-section writing and pop and world-music craft from the inside. The recorded trace of those years is the three-disc Traveling Home (2011, Helicon Music), where his alto and tenor run across the first two discs of the set, twenty-six of its forty-one tracks.

His own music started with Niogi, the jazz-fusion band he co-founded with the pianist, composer and educator Guy Shkolnik. An early self-released CDr under the band's name paired the two of them with bassist Shay Hazan and drummer Roi Brum, with every piece written by Shkolnik and Abramov. The band's proper album, Landing, was cut over three days in February 2015 at Rainbow Studio in Oslo with Jan Erik Kongshaug engineering, and issued on the Austrian label Alessa Records in 2016; by then Niogi had toured Europe repeatedly and reached as far as Thailand and Myanmar. Abramov plays tenor, soprano and EWI on it, alongside the Norwegian bassist Per Mathisen and drummer Utsi Zimring.

Abramov moved to Berlin, where he has been based since, and the city reshaped his working life into three parallel bands rather than one. He met the guitarist Tal Yadin there in 2016, sharing a flat in the center of the city, and the two built Big Berry, a folk-jazz duo that stays acoustic in instrumentation while using live effects and looping to fill out the sound, and that expands into the groove-based Big Berry Quartet for the same repertoire. In January 2019 he recorded in Brooklyn with the bassist Ben Tiberio and the drummer Evan Hyde, a session released in March 2021 as Hovercraft, five originals for saxophone, EWI and effects over acoustic bass and drums. Reviewing it for JazzZeitung in May 2021, Michael Scheiner heard 1980s and 1990s American fusion in its dense forward push and singled out the flow of energy between the three players rather than any one soloist.

The Berlin years also made him a producer. He is the musical producer of Sistanagila, the Berlin-based Iranian-Israeli ensemble, playing soprano saxophone and synth on and producing and mixing its 2023 Dreyer Gaido album Bazaar. He plays tenor saxophone, EWI, Sylphyo and synth in the large Berlin ensemble Tryon on Läuterung (2022, Double Moon), and tenor and soprano across the progressive-rock project Smalltape's The Hungry Heart (2021) and Tangram (2025). He holds the saxophone and EWI chair in the international band of the singer Noa, and works steadily as a hired horn and co-producer across the German and Italian scenes, including the Italian bassist Francesco Beccaro's Upward (2021, AUAND) and two records for the Israeli-Norwegian drummer Udi Shlomo on Alessa.

Four releases inside eighteen months mark his current run. Childhood (Solo Live) (June 2025) is a remastered solo set from Audio Modeling's studio, four pieces including "Body and Soul" built from his own beats, samples, synths and EWI into what he describes as a hybrid DJ and jazz performance. In November 2025 he played tenor and flute on the singer Mika Hary's Deux Faces, cut live to analogue tape at Guy Sternberg's LowSwing studio in Berlin with Haggai Cohen Milo on bass and Amir Bresler on drums. Big Berry, the first album under the duo's name, followed in January 2026, and in March 2026 he took the tenor and flute chair alongside Tineke Postma in Omer Klein's band on The Poetics (XJAZZ Music), again with Cohen Milo and Bresler in the rhythm section. His trio Not Inspired Try Tomorrow, with the bassist Roberto Badoglio and the drummer Marcel van Cleef, released its self-titled debut in May 2026, recorded at Baloo Studios in Berlin, mixed by Abramov and mastered by Nate Wood.

Abramov is one of the few working jazz players whose second instrument is the EWI rather than a second horn, and the balance between the two is the whole shape of his music: an acoustic tenor sound with real weight in the low register and a soprano that reviewers have kept describing in emotional rather than technical terms, set against a wind-controlled synthesizer that lets him play synth lines with saxophone phrasing. He is regarded as one of the most prominent EWI players working, designs patches and sounds for instrument-software companies, and endorses Audio Modeling, EMEO, Aodyo, CloudVocal, Modalics, ReedGeek, Kirlin Cable and Oleg Products. His writing sits closest to the electric fusion of the 1980s, which is what JazzZeitung's Michael Scheiner heard in Hovercraft, but the counterpoint and voice-leading study he did during the Niogi years, and the sound-synthesis and production work that came with it, pull it away from period pastiche. Wolfgang Sandner, writing in the Frankfurter Allgemeine, called him a musician of extremely sharp ears, attentive in every musical direction, which is a fair account of a player whose credits run from an Iranian-Israeli chamber ensemble to London instrumental hip hop without the tenor sound changing much.
