Wonmoo Heo (허원무) is a male jazz vocalist who sings standards in the Korean jazz scene and made his first album, Witchcraft, in 2024. The Latin spelling Wonmoo Heo is the one printed in the artist field on Bugs, in the credits of Mihyang Moon's album I Wished On The Moon and in the Discogs track list of its LP. Melon, Genie, Apple Music, Deezer, Yes24 and the Korean press print the name in Hangul only (허원무). Very little is published about him beyond his recordings and bookings: no birth date or birthplace, schooling or interview was found, so this profile is short and sticks to what the releases and press notices state.
His Korean basis is his work. Bugs lists his nationality as South Korea, his album was released by a Korean distributor, and every booking found is at a Korean festival or venue. After a festival set in Jinju in December 2022 he told a reporter that he usually performs at Seoul jazz clubs, and the local paper introduced his quartet as led by a male jazz vocalist, a rarity in Korea. A Daegu newspaper two years later called him a male jazz vocalist who was drawing attention.
The earliest dated appearances found are from December 2022. On December 6 his quartet (voice, piano, double bass and drums) played the free "Jazz Week" programme of the 2022 Jinju International Jazz Festival in a gallery cafe, and the reporter described him closing his eyes to scat and advising jazz beginners in the audience to applaud after each solo (Gyeongnam Ilbo). On December 24 he joined the singers Jung Min-kyung (정민경), Lee Young-ju (이영주) and Lee Ji-min (이지민) for "Christmas Singers" at the Munhak Theater in Incheon, accompanied by the Lee Ji-yeon Jazz Orchestra led by the pianist and composer Lee Ji-yeon (이지연). The theater reported that the show sold out as soon as tickets went on sale and streamed it live on its YouTube channel (Incheon Ilbo).
In October 2023 he appeared on the debut album of the vocalist Mihyang Moon, I Wished On The Moon. Its closing track, "In The Still Of The Night," is a duet with him sung over piano alone, and Bugs lists him under "Featuring" for track 11 (Bugs, Discogs). The bassist Daeho Kim co-produced that album and arranged all its tracks. On December 25, 2024 he was a guest at her Christmas concert in the small theater of Suseong Artpia in Daegu, where the announcement promised a romantic man-and-woman duet (Maeil Sinmun).
His own album, Witchcraft, followed on November 19, 2024. Melon, Bugs, Genie, Deezer and Apple Music date the release to that day, and Yes24 lists the CD with the date November 20, 2024. Biscuit Sound distributed it; Melon and Bugs list Heo himself as the agency. The album text calls it his first regular album, built from jazz standards he likes and often sings, reinterpreted in his own style, with Daeho Kim as producer and arranger. There are eleven tracks and a running time of 52 minutes 31 seconds on Bugs: "Make Me Rainbows," "I'll Be Seeing You," "This Happy Madness," "Just In Time," "A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square," the title track "Witchcraft," "Since I Fell For You," "When Sunny Gets Blue," "The Song Is You," "Stardust" and "Give Me The Simple Life." Daeho Kim arranged tracks 1, 2 and 4 to 11, and track 3 was arranged by the pianist Jung Woo-yeon (정우연) together with him. Heo sings with Jung Woo-yeon on piano, Na Young-chan (나영찬) on guitar, Baek Yong-hun (백용훈) on bass, Kim Tae-seon (김태선) on drums and Jung Jae-dong (정재동) on saxophone. Lee Hyeon-jin (이현진) recorded it at Yagi Studio and Chris Allen mixed and mastered it at Sear Sound (Yes24, Bugs).
The one critical comment found is in a Korean jazz newsletter's review of the albums released in 2024. Its author named Witchcraft and Cho Hae-in's Sight Beyond Sight as the two albums played most, and described Witchcraft as full of music that holds Heo's high-toned voice without big changes in dynamics and that stays enjoyable through repeated full listens (Jazz Docent). The singer Hae In Cho is profiled on JazzProfiles.com.
Since the album he has kept working with the same players. On November 27, 2025 the Seocho Cultural Foundation presented a quartet concert titled "Witchcraft" at the Banpo Simsan Art Hall in Seoul, the last night of its autumn Seoripul Jazz Festa series, with Heo, Baek Yong-hun, Jung Woo-yeon and Kim Tae-seon; the announcement describes him as a vocalist praised for delicate emotional lines and depth, and a video with that title appeared on the foundation's YouTube channel in December 2025 (Handmaker, video). On December 24, 2025 his trio (허원무 트리오) played jazz standards and Christmas carols at the Suwon Cultural Foundation's free Winter Busking at the Jeongjo Theme Performance Hall (Gyeonggi Shinmun). The 2026 Taehwagang International Jazz Festival in Ulsan billed his quintet (허원무 퀸텟) for May 17, 2026, with Heo, Jung Woo-yeon, Baek Yong-hun, Na Young-chan and Kim Tae-seon, the festival's own text describing them as players who have worked together for a long time (Ulsan Maeil, Ulsan Maeil).
The evidence for his style is the repertoire and the descriptions. Witchcraft is eleven well-known standards in arrangements by Daeho Kim, and the concert notices describe a warm, swinging standards set with a rhythm section, and the album adds guitar and saxophone. The reporter in Jinju heard swing with scat, and the festival text for Ulsan speaks of the comfortable, warm swing typical of standards. One regional paper called a male jazz vocalist rare in Korea, and the newsletter author heard a high-toned voice. No named influences are stated by him in any source found.
South Korean male jazz vocalist (birth date and place not published). Billed Wonmoo Heo on Bugs and in the credits of Mihyang Moon's album, and 허원무 on Melon, Genie, Apple Music, Deezer and Yes24. He has no Discogs artist entry; the details below come from the label's and retailers' release pages and the one Discogs release that names him.
Groups led: his trio (허원무 트리오), quartet (허원무 쿼텟) and quintet (허원무 퀸텟), as billed on concert notices; no group releases.
