Jae Young Jeong (정재영) is a South Korean-born jazz guitarist and composer who lives in the New York area. His own biography says he began music at 16 with classical guitar at a music academy in Korea, switched to electric guitar after a year, and in 2000 enrolled at Seoul Jazz Academy to study jazz in earnest. All About Jazz gives his birth date as December 30, 1980, and his own site and Bandcamp page both describe him as South Korean-born. No source names his birthplace within Korea. His releases and videos bill him as Jae young Jeong, with a lower-case "young"; his YouTube channel adds the Hangul 정재영 to the titles of his music videos.

At Seoul Jazz Academy he played in concerts, gigs and recording sessions, and after graduating he kept studying privately with jazz guitarists in Korea. In 2007 he was accepted to Berklee College of Music as a World Scholarship Tour recipient. At Berklee he was chosen as a bandleader for the Jazz Guitar Night Showcase at the Berklee Performance Center, and he names Mick Goodrick, Tim Miller, Hal Crook, Greg Osby, Sheryl Bailey and Darren Barrett as his teachers there. In 2012 he began a master's program in jazz studies at NYU Steinhardt, where his biography lists Peter Bernstein, Brad Shepik, Kenny Werner, Ralph Alessi, Andy Milne, Ralph Lalama, Billy Drewes and John Scofield among his teachers.

His debut album, Deep Sea, came out on April 23, 2018, eight tracks with the pianist Christian Li, the bassist Sang-ouk Jung and the drummer Oscar Suchanek, credited on the video for the title track, which names him as writer and producer and says the music was recorded and mixed at Studio42Brooklyn in New York. A quartet date at Cornelia Street Cafe on November 13, 2018 was filmed, with Yonghyun Lee on piano, Hwansu Kang on bass and JK Kim on drums. A second album, Straight, followed on May 28, 2025: four tracks, among them the standard "Stella by Starlight", recorded on February 26, 2025 at Pinch Recording Studio with Nitzan Gavrieli on piano, Yoshiki Yamada on bass and Yosuke Nagayama on drums. He described it as a statement about moving forward on instinct and honesty once the pursuit of originality no longer required overthinking. Apple Music files it as an EP, while he calls it his second album.

His biography lists appearances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Cornelia Street Cafe, Ovation Hall, Brushes Culture, The Falcon and ShapeShifter, and says he has recorded at Van Gelder Studio, the Englewood Cliffs room where many Blue Note sessions were made; it does not say which recording that was. It also names Rodney Green, David Wang, Richie Perry, Steve Bernstein, Bill O'Connell and Steve Jones as collaborators. The album release show for Straight took place on July 31, 2025 at Brvsh Culture in New Jersey, with Sharik Hasan on piano, Yoshiki Yamada on bass and Finn Wiest on drums. In 2026 his quartet played ShapeShifter Lab on June 27, with Nitzan Gavrieli, Peter Slavov on bass and Ronen Itzik on drums, and Five Spot Jazz in Manhattan on September 22, with Toru Dodo on piano, Sam Weber on bass and Jay Sawyer on drums.

No interview in which he discusses his influences was found, so this section sticks to what his releases, videos and biography show.

His teachers include Mick Goodrick and Greg Osby at Berklee and Peter Bernstein and John Scofield at NYU, by his own account. On record he works in the standard guitar quartet format, with piano, bass and drums. Deep Sea has eight tracks running from just over four minutes to nine and a half, and the title track is the second longest at 8:35. Straight has four tracks of between about six and seven and a half minutes, one of them a reading of "Stella by Starlight". His live sets add standards such as "All the Things You Are" and the hymn "My Jesus, I Love Thee" to his own pieces. He describes his own music on YouTube as modern jazz.
