Eran Har Even was born on April 22, 1983 in Israel. His earliest listed distinctions come from home: an "Excellent musician" citation from the Israel Defense Forces in 2001, during his conscript years, and a grant from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation in 2004. He then left for the Netherlands to study, and has lived in Amsterdam ever since. In 2012 he completed both a bachelor's and a master's degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the master's in its jazz programme. Part of that education happened in the United States: he and the saxophonist Itai Weissman spent time as transfer students at Temple University's Boyer College of Music and Dance in Philadelphia, where they met the trumpeter and EVI player John Swana.

The band that established him in the Netherlands was EvenSanne, a duo grown into a quartet with the singer Sanne Huijbregts, built on loop stations, effects pedals, Weissman's electronic wind instrument and Jeroen Batterink's drums. Their self-released debut Something So Sweet appeared on June 1, 2014, with liner notes by the pianist Harmen Fraanje and the bassist Hein van de Geyn. The group took the Keep an Eye Foundation's incentive prize in 2015 and the Keep an Eye The Records award for 2016/17, and the second album What If, released by Berthold Records in 2017, was nominated for an Edison Jazz/World award in 2018. Over the same decade he became a steady presence on Dutch sessions: the alto saxophonist Susanne Alt's How To Kiss (Venus Tunes, 2012), two albums by the singer Sietske Roscam Abbing on Berthold, Henk Kraaijeveld's Passengers (ZenneZ Records, 2018), the Luxembourg bassist Pol Belardi's eleven-piece Urban Voyage (Unit Records, 2016), which he also helped mix, and the Israeli pianist Eyal Lovett's live Beyond Good and Evil, cut over a three-night residency at Horns Erben in Leipzig. He co-led the neo-fusion quartet Little Known Facts with Weissman, and joined BEAM, a half-Israeli, half-Luxembourgish collective with the saxophonist Maayan Smith, bassist Boris Schmidt and drummer Niels Engel whose Flight Dream came out in November 2018.

His own leader catalogue began with the EP Laws of Gravity, made by a trio of Tobias Nijboer on bass and Jaime Peet on drums with guests. World Citizen, released by Challenge Records International on February 7, 2020, was the first full statement: twelve original pieces played by an international quartet of the Israeli bassist Haggai Cohen Milo, the Spanish pianist Xavi Torres and the Latvian drummer Ivars Arutyunyan, with french horn, clarinet and bassoon added for "Cycle Of Life." The title is literal rather than decorative: the record is about years spent away from where he grew up. 20/21 followed on November 25, 2022, recorded that August at Wedge View Studio in the Netherlands by the trio of Har Even, Weissman on EWI and Batterink on drums, with Claire Parsons singing on "Brain Fog." Its nine pieces are pinned to specific things: a sister's chronic illness, a practice room on Amsterdam's Helicopterstraat, a friend's suicide, and the flat, motiveless aftermath of the pandemic.

In February 2023, at the Roode Bioscoop in Amsterdam, he recorded Shorter Days, eight Wayne Shorter compositions rearranged for guitar trio with the bassist Omer Govreen and the drummer Wouter Kühne, released by his own World Citizen Music Records on January 18, 2024. It grew out of three years of working through Shorter's book, and out of the project weekend he built around it at the Roode Bioscoop in December 2022: six concerts, a film night, a lecture, a photo exhibition and a Shorter session. The album was reviewed in Jazz Journal, Jazzviews, Salt Peanuts, Jazz Flits and the Swedish magazine LIRA.

That same year he joined the electric quartet the Israeli saxophonist Shauli Einav had assembled from his new base in Luxembourg. Living Organs came out on Outside In Music on November 17, 2023, with Har Even playing guitar and bass guitar beside Laurent Coulondre on piano, organ and synthesizer and Paul Wiltgen on drums. It is the furthest Einav has travelled from hard bop, and the guitar and organ front line is the reason.

Since then the work has moved toward long-running partnerships and toward sound itself. PARSONS x HAR EVEN x RAVITZ, a trio with the British-Luxembourgish singer and keyboardist Claire Parsons and the Israeli drummer Ziv Ravitz, released its self-titled debut on October 3, 2025, having already documented the working band on the live Run from the Moon for Sound Liaison. On March 23, 2025 the Eran Har Even Trio recorded a full concert at Jazz Café Alto in Amsterdam, with Govreen and Kühne and Weissman guesting on saxophone; Live at Jazz Café Alto was issued as both an album and a complete concert video on July 17, 2026, a programme of Shorter's own tunes and the standards he carried, from "Deluge" and "Infant Eyes" and "Wildflower" to Clare Fischer's "Pensativa" and Jimmy Rowles's "502 Blues." In 2026 he also appeared across all seven tracks of the tenor saxophonist Efraïm Trujillo's 3 Part Harmony (Zennez Records), a piano-less trio with the bassist Sven Schuster. He has been on the faculty of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam for more than sixteen years, teaching guitar, ear training, music theory and ensemble coaching, including its Remote Hybrid Ensemble and its Master of Immersive Audio, and has taught at schools and festivals in India, Latvia, Spain, France and Israel. His current research runs alongside the playing: Hypnosphere, an immersive-audio collaboration with the sound architect Attie Bauw; the SubSix Diaries, a video series documenting his work with Submarine Pickups' hexaphonic SubSix pickup; and a method book on applying polyphony to the guitar.

Har Even's sound is built on splitting the guitar into more than one voice. The loop stations and pedals of EvenSanne, the pairing of guitar with Itai Weissman's electronic wind instrument, where the two of them share the bass function between them, and the hexaphonic pickup that lets him process each string separately are all versions of the same pursuit, and the polyphony method book he is writing is its theoretical form. German Wikipedia files him as a fusion and jazz musician, and the electric, texture-first side of his playing is real, but the material underneath it is unusually conservative: Wayne Shorter's compositions have been the spine of two of his albums and much of his live book since he found them as a teenager. Reviewing Shorter Days for Salt Peanuts, Eyal Hareuveni described the interpretations as fresh rather than nostalgic, and Jazz Journal's Roger Farbey called the arrangements captivating and enlightening. His own account of his writing is conversational: a melody is a topic, and the solo is where the discussion happens. Gilad Hekselman, a friend and occasional duo partner, has called him an original voice on the instrument. He plays Victor Baker and David Rossi guitars and uses Gamechanger Audio effects.
