Romeu Tristão is a Portuguese jazz bassist based in Lisbon, Portugal. He has worked for fifteen years alongside saxophonist Ricardo Toscano and drummer João Pereira, appearing on the Ricardo Toscano Trio album Chasing Contradictions, which features compositions by Toscano, Pereira, Thelonious Monk, and a traditional fado song. He also appears on the Ricardo Toscano Quartet's 2018 album, alongside João Pedro Coelho and João Lopes Pereira.
Tristão has recorded with a range of international musicians, including guitarist Perico Sambeat and guitarist Peter Bernstein, and has performed with drummer Jorge Rossy, whose own career is covered in full in his JazzProfiles.com profile, documented in a filmed session alongside pianist Julio Resende and guitarist Bruno Chaveiro that blended fado and jazz.
Tristão's long-running partnership with Ricardo Toscano and his blending of Portuguese fado tradition with straight-ahead jazz vocabulary made him one of the more distinctive bassists to emerge from the contemporary Lisbon jazz scene.
